Rumors and Gossip…
The lifeblood of London
When Olivia Bevelstoke is told that her new neighbor may have killed his fiancee, she doesn’t believe it for a second, but, still, how can she help spying on him, just to be sure? So she stakes out a spot near her bedroom window, cleverly concealed by curtains, watches, and waits…and discovers a most intriguing man, who is definitely up to something.
Sir Harry Valentine works for the boring branch of the War Office, translating documents vital to national security. He’s not a spy, but he’s had all the training, and when a gorgeous blonde begins to watch him from her window, he is instantly suspicious. But just when he decides that she’s nothing more than an annoyingly nosy debutante, he discovers that she might be engaged to a foreign prince, who might be plotting against England. And when Harry is roped into spying on Olivia, he discovers that he might be falling for her himself…
This book rocks. I have been on an historical kick lately and Julia Quinn is one of my favorite historical authors. WHAT HAPPENS IN LONDON is a very fun book. Olivia and Harry are great characters. I love the scenes that take place at the windows, especially the last one. The couple has incredible chemistry and fit each other perfectly. Ms. Quinn writes fantastic dialogue and the way she describes the scenes paints a vivid picture in my head. I loved this book and can’t wait to read Harry’s cousins story next year!

WHEN LOVE AND JEALOUSY COLLIDE ON THE SLOPES, WINTER BREAK TURNS DEADLY
Rose Hathaway’s got serious guy trouble. Her gorgeous tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason has a huge crush on her, and she keeps getting stuck in her best friend Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian.
Then a massive Stigoi attack puts St. Vladmir’s on high alert, and the Academy crawls with Guardians - including the legendary Janine Hathaway…Rose’s formidable, long-absent mother. The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks. This year, St. Vlad’s holiday ski trip is mandatory.
But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only provide the illusion of safety. When three students run away to strike back against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. Only this time, Rose - and her heart - are in more danger than she ever could have imagined…
I loved this book. I think that Richelle Mead has written a book that is for young adults, but doesn’t treat it as if it is for children. There is sex, foul language, and death. I think that this series is perfect for a high school aged person who can handle the various themes in a mature way. There were several times in this book where I was emotional. I was either holding my breath, sad, or laughing. I didn’t want to put it down. I even read through dinner so that I could finish the book. I have book 3 sitting on my tbr shelf, but I have heard there is a terrible cliffhanger. I think I’m going to wait for book 4 in August before I read book 3.

This weeks book trailer is for SENSE AND SENSIBILITY AND SEA MONSTERS. I’m not sure about this book, but the trailer is awesome! The book is set to be released September 09.
From back of the book:
Getting to first base is a cinch…
But getting home will take a grand slam…
Pace Martin is the ace pitcher for the Pacific Heat. He’s got the arm, the experience, and the wins. He’s also got the pain, the pressure, and the possible end of his career looming over him. The last thing he needs now is a distraction, even if it comes in the form of a tough, beautiful, tell-it-like-it-is writer who sees past his defenses.
Holly Hutchins knows a good story when she sees one, and the tall, dark, and slightly attitude-challenged Pace Martin fits the bill. But when she realizes there’s more at stake than just a win, she starts to see the handsome, broad-shouldered jock in a different light.
Pace and Holly begin a seductive game, but in the face of unexpected betrayal and challenges, they’ll have to find the courage to swing for the fences…
Double Play rocked! I love Jill Shalvis. Her books are always funny, romantic and sexy as hell. This one is no exception. Pace and Holly are a fun couple. I loved her determination to write the article she wanted and his unwillingness to let his shoulder be the end of his career. They were a match made in baseball heaven. The dialogue moves very quickly and the verbal sparing is a delight to read. I can’t wait for the next baseball book by Jill Shalvis!!
the book girl gives DOUBLE PLAY a 5/5!

From book jacket:
He must be wealthy, well born, and want her more than he wants any other woman. Those are the conditions that must be met by the man Cassandra Belmont chooses for her lover. Marriage is out of the question for the destitute widow who stands accused of murdering her husband and must now barter her beauty in order to survive. With seduction in mind, she sets her sights on Stephen Huxtable, the irresistible attractive Earl of Merton and London’s most eligible bachelor. But Stephen’s first intriguing glimpse of the mysterious, alluring Lady Paget convinces him that he has found the ideal woman to share his bed. There is only one caveat. This relationship fueled by mutual pleasure must be on his terms.
As the two warily circle each other in a sensual dance of atack and retreat, a single night of passion alters all the rules. Cassandra, whose reputation is already in tatters, is now in danger of losing the one thing she vowed never to give. And Stephen, who wants Cassandra more than he has ever wanted any woman, won’t rest until she has surrendered everything - not as his mistress - but as his lover and wife…
This is the fourth book in the Huxtable series. I was looking forward to reading Stephen’s story, but was disappointed. I didn’t like Cassandra at all. She seemed all wrong for the man that Stephen had become. I just didn’t buy them as a couple, and I couldn’t get into the story. I’m hoping that Con’s book next year will be better.
the book girl gives SEDUCING AN ANGEL 3/5.

from the back of the book:
Only desperation could bring Duncan Pennethorne, the infamous Earl of Sheringford, back home after the spectacular scandal that had shocked even the jaded ton. Forced to wed in fifteen days or be cut off without a penny, Duncan chooses the one woman in London in frantic need of a husband. A lie to an old flame forces Margaret Huxtable to accept the irresistible stranger’s offer. But once she discovers who he really is, it’s too late - she’s already betrothed to the wickedly sensual rakehell. Quickly she issues an ultimatum: If Duncan wants her, he must woo her. And as passion slowly ignites, two people marrying for all the wrong reasons are discovering the joys of seduction - and awaiting the exquisite pleasure of what comes after…
This is the third book in the Huxtable series and by far my favorite. I have liked all of the books a lot, but Margaret’s story was the one I was waiting for. Meg has been taking care of her brother and sister’s since the death of their parents. Meg completely puts aside her own happiness for that of her family. Now that both sisters are married and Stephen has reached his majority, Meg feels that it’s time for her to move on with her life. Through a series of half-truths and out right lies she finds herself engaged to a stranger. Not just an ordinary stranger either, a stranger with a scandalous past. I loved that Meg finally got her love story. The two characters didn’t seem to compliment each other in the beginning, but as I got to know Duncan that changed. These two make a great couple and a great love story. The writing moves quickly and the story is fast paced. There is a lot more going on between Meg and Duncan than the books before. I liked how very flawed that characters were and the redemption that happens in the end.

From the back of the book:
He could be her fantasy man-if he could just lighten up…
Tall, dark and intense, Detective Jason de Sanges excites all kinds of fantasies in Poppy Calloway. But when she suggests the three teens caught spray-painting a Seattle neighborhood be given art-related community service and he just wants to see them pay - all bets are off.
With the men in his family always in and out of the slammer. Jase was raised in foster care. He knows what it takes to walk the line. And his number one self-imposed rule? Avoid his hunger for sexy, irresistible Poppy, who challenges him on everything. But it’s a vow that’s getting harder and harder to keep…
This is the second book about a threesome of friends who inherit a house together. (CUTTING LOOSE was the first book) In BENDING THE RULES Jason meets his match in Poppy, the free spirited daughter of hippies. Poppy sees the good in people, even when they have done something wrong. Jason is her opposite, he sees what becomes of people who are on the wrong side of the law everyday in his job as a detective and in his own family. These two but heads every time they are near each other, but there are also explosions of attraction that neither one understands. I loved this book. I think I even liked it better than CUTTING LOOSE which I really liked. I can’t wait until we get Ava’s book!
