Review and Giveaway: Mr. Darcy, Vampyre by Amanda Grange (New Author Challenge)

402969451 A MARRIED MAN IN POSSESSION OF A DARK FORTUNE

MUST BE IN WANT OF AN ETERNAL WIFE…

I have to admit that I struggled with this book. It took me a while to get into the story. But once I did, I was thoroughly entertained. The story is told from Elizabeth’s point of view and gives the reader the details of what happens after the wedding while Darcy and Elizabeth are on their honeymoon. I really would have liked it if the story had given both Darcy and Elizabeth’s point of view. There isn’t really a lot that I can say without giving away some spoilers. I think this book would be good for any fan of Jane Austen and Pride & Prejudice.

This is the kind of Austen book I don’t like reading, where other authors make her characters their own. But I think I’m one of the few-I’m a stick-in-the-mud Austen fan that way! ;) I don’t mind retellings (there’s a YA book basedon P&P called Enthusiasm that I really want to read), or books like The Jane Austen Book Club, but I feel as if author’s characters should be left to themselves. Except I’m a total hypocrite in that I love a mystery series by Laurie King that features Sherlck Holmes, Mycroft, and others from Doyle’s stories. I think it’s because I don’t love Doyle the way I do Austen. :)

  3. Jenny Kerr says:

well, the book trailer doesn’t seem to give away any more than you were able to! I saw this in the sidebar of the Austenprose blog but hadn’t really looked into it any further than seeing the cover. Looks interesting though. I’ve never seen a book trailer before.

I’m curious to read this one–as a librarian, I wonder if it might serve as a tease to get the “Twilight” generation introduced to Jane Austen.

This whole book trailer phenomenon is so weird! It used to be “Read the book–See the movie”, now it’s “See the trailer–read the book!”

  5. CrystalGB says:

Sounds interesting. I would like to read this book.

  6. Jamie says:

Vampires are hot right now so why not make Mr Darcy even hotter then making him a vampire. I’m on the fence about this. I’ve had it in my hand to buy a couple times but sometimes i feel that i don’t want to ruin what i have in my head.

I’ll have to admit the mixed reviews of this book have made me dying to read this. It can’t be as bad as some of the other continuation stories.

I’ve read a couple reviews for this book lately, and they’ve all said basically this same thing, though some get into it quicker than others. I will be adding it to my list as soon as my list is short enough there is room to add to it!

I would love to be entered. I enjoy watching book trailers and think that it is kind of fun to have the trailers to get you to read a book. My kids just think that it is so weird.
