Review: Laid Bare by Lauren Dane (New Author Challenge)

39481965From the back of the book:

UNEXPECTED DESIRE

It’s been ten ears since clean-cut, sexy-as-hell police officer Todd Keenan had a white-hot fling with Erin Brown, the provocative, wild rocker chick next door. Their power exchange in the bedroom got under his skin. But love wasn’t in the cards just yet…

Now, life has thrown the pair back together. But picking up where they left off is tough in light of a painful event from Erin’s past. As Todd struggles to earn her trust, their relationship takes an unexpected and exciting turn when Todd’s best friend, Ben, ends up in their bed – and all three are quite satisfied in this relationship without a name. As the passion they share transforms Erin, will it be enough to help her face the evil she thought she had left behind?

This book is amazing! I was so engrossed in the book I couldn’t do anything but read. Even though it is labeled as an erotic romance it is really so much more. Yes, there is a lot of sex and it can be explicit (and hot), but it is the relationship between Erin and Todd that make the book so amazing.  The emotional journey the characters in the book take had me laughing out loud and crying. The way Ms. Dane writes makes the reader feel. I could feel the love between Erin, Todd, and Ben. I could feel the despair of what Erin had gone through in the past and what she still had to recover after the horrific event that changed her life forever. This is the best book I have read this year. I can’t wait to read Brody, Erin’s older brothers, story next. I wish that the book was already out, but until then I’ll just have to hold on to LAID BARE and read it again and again.

the book girl gives LAID BARE a 5/5!!

Review: Revealed by Kate Noble

33500296From the back of the book:

Phillippa Benning is the unrivaled beauty of the Season – and she likes it that way. But when another lady challenges her for the attention of the most eligible marquis in London, Phillippa throws caution to the wind and entices him to a secret rendezvous, only to stumble on something far more dangerous: the Blue Raven, England’s most famous spy, lurking at the site of her would-be tryst.

The Blue Raven has uncovered an enemy plot directed at upcoming Society functions, but without title or invitation, he’s unable to discreetly infiltrate the upper echelons of London’s society. Phillippa makes a clever offer: in exchange for entree among the Ton, he agrees to have his true identity revealed at the Benning Ball – guaranteeing her name will be on the lips of the elite for Seasons to come.

As the danger draws closer, the mysterious spy gives chase – and he and Phillippa give in to mutual desire. But when the game turns deadly and betrayal lurks around the corner, Phillippa must decide once and for all  – is it the myth that captured her heart or the man?

I really enjoyed this book as a whole, but wasn’t too fond of the main character Phillippa. She came across spoilt and snobby. It fit within the story and the character did grow and change, but I was already not liking her and it was too late to change my mind. I felt that Mr. Worth was a great character. He was sympathetic and easy to root for. The writing and the dialog are fun, there were several times when I was laughing out loud. This book wouldn’t gain a spot on my keeper shelf, but I will read more by the author.

the book girl gives REVEALED by Kate Noble a 3/5!

Review: Can’t Stand the Heat by Louisa Edwards (New Author Challenge)

390578971From the back of the book:

She’s hungry for experience.

For sharp-tongued food critic Miranda Wake, the chance to spend a month in Adam Temple’s kitchen to write an expose is a journalistic dream come true. Surely Miranda can find a way to cut the hotshot chef down to size once she learns what really goes on at his trendy Manhattan restaurant. The trouble is, she never expected Adam to find out her most embarrassing secret: she has no idea how to cook.

And he knows just how to satisfy her cravings…

Adam’s not about to have his reputation burned by a critic who doesn’t even know the difference between poaching and paring. He’ll just have to give the tempting redhead a few private lessons of his own – teaching her what it means to cook with passion…and doing more with his hands than preparing sumptuous food.

This is Louisa Edwards first book and it is really good. I loved how we first meet Miranda when she is most definitely not at her best. It made a character that came across a little harsh, instantly lovable. Adam is wonderfully written. He is a character with as much passion for life as one can possibly have. Everything is an adventure to him, even though his first love is cooking. The scene when he first teaches Miranda to cook a poached egg is my favorite. I was a little put off by Miranda’s initial attitude in relation to her job and how, even though some people may be hurt, she was willing to do whatever necessary to achieve her dream. There is a m/m subplot that could turn away some readers. However, I found it to strengthen Miranda’s character and the story. I can’t wait to read more by this new fantastic author!!

New TV Show Time!

I am a reader and don’t watch a lot of TV, but I love it when the new season starts. There are all new shows to watch and our favorites, hopefully, return so we can see what happens next. I am late to the party of Supernatural, but after watching the first four seasons on DVD, I can’t wait for season five to start on September 10th.

Here is the preview for season five:

I also can’t wait for the new Melrose Place. I watched the original and never missed an episode. I love that there is going to be a mixture of new characters with some of the old favorites!

And, of course, I can’t wait to see what they do with The Vampire Diaries. True Blood is so different from the actual books, that I am interested to see if the Vampire Diaries will stay closer to the actual book or deviate.

There are many more that I can’t wait to watch. What are you looking forward to this television season?

Saturday Book Trailer: The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker

41318647This weeks Saturday book trailer is for The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by Leanna Renee Hieber. This book is definitely on my tbr list!!

Here is the blurb for the book:

What fortune awaited sweet, timid Percy Parker at Athens Academy? Considering how few of Queen Victoria’s Londoners knew of it, the great Romanesque fortress was dreadfully imposing, and little could Percy guess what lay inside. She had never met the powerful and mysterious Professor Alexi Rychman, knew nothing of the growing shadow, the Ripper and other supernatural terrors against which his coterie stood guard. She knew simply that she was different, haunted, with her snow-white hair, pearlescent skin and uncanny gifts. But this arched stone doorway offered a portal to a new life, an education far from the convent—and an invitation to an intimate yet dangerous dance at the threshold of life and death…

There are several excerpt on the Author’s blog:
