I was so excited when I saw that you can now download Kindle books for your PC. This means that when Amazon offers Kindle books for free or cheap I can now download them without an actual Kindle or if I’m on the road and only have my laptop I could download something as long as I can connect to the web.

For example, Maya Banks’ UNDERSTOOD is available for free this week (click here to take you to the book). I downloaded it and read it, then bought the others in the series. I think this is great for author’s and readers both.

I will admit that I still really want an actual Kindle - it would be much easier to read on than my laptop. But, until I can convince my husband that it is a necessity, I’ll take what I can get.

Has anyone else used this new feature yet?

This was a fun read. I loved the stubborn and brash Milli Torres. She is definitely not your average heroine. Beau is a great character too. Lucky in everything but love, he is willing to settle down with a woman who isn’t quite right for him. He has a vulnerable streak that isn’t seen in many alpha male characters and it is written so that it doesn’t take away from him “alphaness”. Their relationship gets off to a rocky start, but they both fight for love. The only thing that bothered me was both characters pattern of speech. Living in Oklahoma, where the book is set, I don’t know anyone who talks the way the characters do. Not a problem that takes away from the story at all, just a little thing that bothered me. Still, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, ONE LUCKY COWBOY.

NaNo Update 2

So, I still haven’t written much and am loosing the hope that I will win this year. I think the problem is that I don’t LOVE what I’m writing and it just isn’t flowing the way it should. I think that I am going to work on another idea and come back to this one at some point later.

That’s about it for NaNo, but I am excited about something else…New Books!!

Lauren Dane and Megan Hart’s new book No Reservations was released this week! I am going to pick up my copy this weekend and can’t wait to settle in and read it. Also, I have a galley of Lauren’s next contemporary, Coming Undone, that I plan on reading tonight and tomorrow.(I’m beginning to see that I’m reading too much and not writing)

There are so many holiday books out now and I have a huge love of all things Christmas including romances set during that time. I picked up several anthologies and harlequins this past weekend to get ready for December!

Review: The Confessions of a Duchess by Nicola Cornick

The Confessions of a Duchess is the first book in a trilogy set in the same town of Fortune’s Folly. I had high hopes for this book, but it didn’t live up to them. From the premise - a tax on unmarried women - to the secret that the Laura is keeping from Dexter, there was one unbelievable happening after another. Dexter is a man in need of a fortune to take care of his six brothers and sisters and he doesn’t expect anyone to help him. Laura is a dowager duchess who has a small daughter to take care off and little money. She once spent a wild night with Dexter and then coldly tossed him out of her bed. The set up for the romance worked for me and would have made a great story if Laura had been honest with Dexter and there wasn’t the stupid dame’s tax thing. I have the other two books in the series, but probably won’t be reading them.

I love Christmas anthologies. I have a set that I read every year and make sure to catch the new ones when they come out. Kissing Santa Clause is a fantastic anthology. I loved all three stories. My favorite was Bah Handsome! by Jill Shalvis. The story is funny and sweet. This book is a must for Christmas romance lovers!
