I really enjoyed this book although it took me a little while to get into the story. Eliza is a very interesting character. Her love for her country is so strong that she is willing to join with the Irish to try and break away from the English. Something that could be seen as treason if she were found out. Will is a soldier who is trying to do his duty for family and country. These two have a lot of things obstacles standing in their way, but love is stronger. Once I was able to get into the story I couldn’t put it down. The writing flows and their is enough action to keep everything interesting without overshadowing the romance. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending. It didn’t feel complete enough for me, but I have a feeling that what I was looking for in my ending will happen in book two that releases later this year.

This is a debut book by a fantastic new author. I absolutely loved the feel of this book. I don’t normal seek out Gothic romance, but I will after reading this book. The reader is introduced to a variety of characters, not many who are likable. Evangeline isn’t your usual Gothic heroine. She is tough and knows what she wants out of life. She runs away from home to escape her stepfather and doesn’t look back. I absolutely loved her drive. Gavin is your typical brooding hero and I loved him from the first moment. There is so much more to him than it seems at first. His past has left him very lonely and he believes himself to be unlovable. These two match each other so well. Besides the main characters I really liked Susan, Evangeline’s friend, who is out to catch the eye of Gavin even though she doesn’t really care for him. I can’t wait to read her story. This book is a terrific read from an author who will be an auto-buy from now on.
