Review: Tempting the Marquess by Sara Lindsey

56081557From the back of the book:

While Olivia Weston loves matchmaking and romantic novels, she intends to make a suitable match. But first she wants an adventure, and when given the opportunity to visit reclusive widower living in a haunted castle, Livvy can’t possibly resist.

After his wife’s death, Jason Traherne, Marquess of Sheldon, shut his heart to everyone but his son, and until now he has succeeded in maintaining his distance. But there’s something about Livvy –  her unique blend of sweetness and sensuality – that tempts him beyond all reason.

Though there’s nothing suitable about the feelings he inspires in her, Livvy can’t help falling for the marquess. But can she persuade him to let go of the past and risk his heart again?

TEMPTING THE MARQUESS is the second book in the Weston series and a very good read. From the very beginning Livvy feels something for the widowed marquess and tries to help him make his life better even though he wants nothing from her. I liked the way these two interacted. Jason doesn’t want to feel anything for Livvy but just can’t help himself. Livvy helps him come back to life after the devastating loss of his wife. This book has everything that is needed for a perfect romance – a tortured hero, a caring heroine, a secret from the past that can destroy their love and a very happy ending. I can’t wait to read the next Weston novel!!

Review: Sugar Creek by Toni Blake

54625675From the back of the book:

Welcome to Destiny, Ohio – Where two families have been at odds as long as anyone in town can remember.

Rachel Farris returned to her childhood home with one mission in mind: get Mike Romo out of her family’s apple orchard business and out of their lives. But hard-nosed and totally hot Mike, who happens to be the law in Destiny, is convinced the Farris clan stole the land from his family fifty years ago and he’s not backing down. Even when shapely trouble shows up in a pair of designer blue jeans. However, neither the hunky cop nor the sexy prodigal hometown girl can anticipate the electricity that heats things up whenever they’re together – adding new sizzle to an ongoing feud that’s raged for generations, and soon putting both their hearts at risk.

On Monday I posted about my love for ONE RECKLESS SUMMER by Toni Blake and now it is SUGAR CREEK’s turn. I loved this book as much as ONE RECKLESS SUMMER. I want to live in Destiny. In the beginning I wasn’t sure about Mike and Rachel. I was afraid that their bickering would get on my nerves, but it didn’t. Their arguing quickly turns from real dislike to intense sexual tension. Rachel, much like Jenny in ONE RECKLESS SUMMER, changes throughout the book. She starts out a city girl ready to help her grandmother then move on, and ends up learning what’s really important in life.

One of my favorite things in SUGAR CREEK is the retelling of Rachel’s grandmother’s romance with Mike’s grandfather. It tied the family history and romance together fantastically.

Review: One Reckless Summer by Toni Blake

47161309From the back of the book:

It’s tough to play it cool on a sultry summer night…

The perfect daughter. The perfect prom queen. The perfect wife. Jenny Tolliver’s been the good girl all her life, and it’s gotten her nowhere. now that her marriage has been busted up by her cheating ex, she’s decided it’s time to regroup and rediscover herself. This summer she’s headed back to her hometown of Destiny, Ohio, to the very lakeshore cottage where she grew up, to figure out what life holds in store for her next.

She never dreamed the answer would be Mick Brody, Destiny’s #1 hellraiser. He comes from the wrong side of the tracks (or in his case, the lake), and he’s landed in hot water more times than he can count. He’s exactly the kind of guy Jenny’s always kept her distance from…but soon the good girl and the bad boy are caught in a raw heat that’s out of control. Too bad Mick’s got a secret that threatens to tear them apart and ruin Jenny’s perfectly, passionately reckless summer…

ONE RECKLESS SUMMER is the perfect book to read this summer (along with the next book in the series SUGAR CREEK). This was my first Toni Blake book and I can’t wait to read everything she has ever written. ONE RECKLESS SUMMER features Jenny, a recent divorcée, and Mick, the town bad boy who is trying to stay hidden. My absolute favorite thing about this book is the crossing back and forth on the lake between their houses. I don’t know what it was about their rowing back and forth was so romantic, but it was so very romantic. Add that to the fact that they had to keep their romance a secret and this book is perfect!! Jenny undergoes a lot of changes throughout the book and her character’s growth is very realistic. The way she goes from the perfect daughter/wife/neighbor/friend to someone who puts herself and her new relationship first is fabulous. I was cheering her (and Mick) on through the whole book. I’m really looking forward to reading more Destiny, Ohio books!

About the book:

After Katie Charmaine’s husband is killed in Iraq, all she has left is a closet full of his clothes, a few pictures, and fond memories. She not only lost her love, but her last chance to have the children she’s always wanted. Until Zack Ferguson shows up in town…with the daughter Katie gave up for adoption nearly seventeen years ago.

Zack Ferguson has never forgotten Katie, or the one magical night they spent together. Seeing her again brings up a tidal wave of emotions: regret over the way he left her, anger at the secret she kept, and desire he hasn’t felt in years. But he’s in town for Gracie. Their daughter is sixteen, angry at the world, and – worst of all – pregnant. She needs the love of her two parents now more than ever. Can these three forgive the hurts of the past and open their hearts to one another?

Review: The Making of a Duchess by Shana Galen

60256404From the back of the book:

A very dangerous attraction…

Julien Harcourt, duc de Valere, is more than willing to marry the lovely young lady his mother has chosen. Little does he know, she’s been sent to prove him a spy and a traitor…

And an even more dangerous secret…

Sarah Smith’s mission is to find out whether the Duc’s trips to the continent are as innocent as he claims, but the way he looks at her is far from innocent…

Their risky game of cat and mouse propels them from the ballrooms of London to the prisons of Paris, and into a fragile love that may not survive their deceptions…

THE MAKING OF A DUCHESS had some great moments and some not-so-great moments for me. I love the premise. Governess thrown into being a spy and finding herself attracted to the man who is suspected of being a traitor. The Duc resigns himself to marrying a young lady from his home country and finds himself with a woman who is more than he ever dreamed she could be. Added to that are secrets from both of their pasts and a government agent who isn’t all that he seems. It is a very exciting story and I loved the different characters and how Julien and Sarah fall in love.

The not-so-great moments mainly revolve around Sarah and her role as Serafina. It is hard to explain what I didn’t like without giving away some important parts of the plot, so let’s just say Sarah and Serafina have more in common that their names being similar and it felt too much like coincidence to be realistic. I also felt that the ending didn’t fit the rest of the story. Up until the end there had been plenty of action, then BAM! everything explodes and then everything is happily ever after. I needed something more after BAM! and before happily ever after.

Thank you so much, Marie!

Frequently Asked Questions

By: Marie Force

Thanks for having me over to talk about the release of my new book, FATAL AFFAIR, which hit the digital book shelves this past Monday. In honor of the release of FATAL AFFAIR, I thought I’d share some of the questions I’m most often asked as an author.

Q: Where do you get your ideas?

A: I used to be afraid I’d eventually run out of ideas. I don’t worry about that anymore. I’ve found that once you open your mind to the sea of possibilities that surround you daily, the ideas come faster and more furiously than I could ever write them.

Q: Are your characters based on real people?

In some cases, real people inspire my characters, but most of them are figments of my imagination—with one exception. I once wrote about a cast of senior citizens, who were loosely based on my dad and his friends. When you have characters like that in your real life, why would you ever try to make up better ones?

Q: How do you research your love scenes?
A: I love this question! I tell people all the time that I research my love scenes the same way Steven King researches his murders. 🙂 Seriously, I don’t spend a lot of time “researching” love scenes. I just write them, and I suspect most authors would say the same thing. I used to get really wound up about having to write the juicy bits. Now it’s just another day in the office. LOL!

Q: Do you know ahead of time what’s going to happen in your books?

A: Nope! I am what is known in the writing world as a “pantser.” In other words, I write by the seat of my pants and don’t follow an outline. However, when writing FATAL JUSTICE, book 2 of the Fatal Series, I discovered I really need to do more plotting when writing romantic suspense. When following the details of a murder mystery, it’s just too much to keep straight in my head. I’ve already written a synopsis for book 3, tentatively called FATAL CONSEQUENCES, so I’m hoping that one will be easier to write than book 2 was!

Do you have other questions? I’m here all day and happy to chat. I’ll give a copy of FATAL AFFAIR to one respondent. Thanks again for having me, and I hope you’ll enjoy FATAL AFFAIR. Buy it here! (

About the book:

On the morning of the most important vote of Senator John O’Connor’s career he is late—again. His best friend andfatal_affair_final_smchief of staff, Nick Cappuano sets off to O’Connor’s apartment expecting to roust him from bed and hoping he is alone. But what Nick finds is that O’Connor, the handsome, amiable Senator from Virginia, has been brutally murdered, and Nick’s world comes crashing down around him. Complicating the disaster, the detective assigned to the case is none other than Sam Holland, Nick’s one-night stand from six years earlier, the woman who broke his heart and haunts his dreams. With six years worth of unfinished business hanging between them and more than a few scores to settle personally and professionally, Nick and Sam set out to find the senator’s killer while trying—and failing—to resist the overwhelming attraction between them that seems to have only grown over the years.

It soon becomes clear that the senator’s past holds secrets that not only led to his death but now endanger Nick and Sam as well. Working together to find a killer and to rediscover the love they thought they lost long ago, they must put the past behind them and build a future that offers a world of new opportunities for both of them—including an offer from the Virginia Democrats for Nick to finish the last year of John’s term.

Review: Fatal Affair by Marie Force

65832576Summary from Carina Press site:

Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland needs a big win to salvage her career—and her confidence—after a disastrous investigation. The perfect opportunity arises when Senator John O’Connor is found brutally murdered in his bed, and Sam is assigned to the case. Matters get complicated when Sam has to team up with Nick Cappuano, O’Connor’s friend and chief of staff…and the man Sam had a memorable one-night stand with years earlier. Their sexual chemistry still sizzles, and Sam has to fight to stay focused on the case. Sleeping with a material witness is another mistake she can’t afford—especially when the bodies keep piling up.

I’ve read Ms. Force’s previous romance novels and loved them, so I was very excited to get an advance copy of FATAL AFFAIR. I was immediately captivated by the story. I read the entire book in one sitting. (My back was killing me when I was done!) This is a romantic suspense and from the very outset I was trying to figure out who the murderer was – I didn’t figure it out until maybe a page or two before the reveal. To me this is the mark of a fantastic suspense novel. I hate when I know who the bad guy is early in the book. The relationship that develops between Sam and Nick is fantastic. It happens very quickly, but didn’t feel out of place. The two have a shared history which made it believable for them to fall in love at the pace they did. This book was on the long side (411 pages on my computer), but didn’t feel long at all when I was reading. FATAL AFFAIR is a very fast paced, action packed book that left me wanting more. There is one secondary character (Sam’s partner) that I hope gets his own book. I can’t wait to read more by this author!!
