Suzanne Jefferson is broke, which is why she’s given up charity work for wedding planning. Fortunately, she has a high-profile client – and best of all, he’s paid in advance. There are just two teensy problems: The bride is a bona fide bridezilla, and Suzanne’s ex-husband is the best man. At least she though he was her ex-husband.
…but this one might.
Two years after their marriage fell apart, stock car race driver Ryder Jefferson still can’t stop thinking about Suzanne. Which is why he isn’t too upset that, due to a glitch, the two are still technically married. Now he’s imagining easing Suzanne’s woes by satisfying her needs in the bedroom. After all, that’s the one room they never argued in. Besides, with wedding bells ringing all around them, Ryder is wondering if – even though they’d quit the race a few laps too early – they can still come strong with a big, romantic finish…
I was really looking forward to this book. In the previous Fast Track novels there had been glimpses of Ryder and Suzanne’s relationship, so I excited that they were finally getting their own book. I don’t know if my expectations were to high, but I just didn’t like this book. I felt like none of their problems were resolved at the end of the book. They were happy sleeping together, but anyone who has been in a long term relationship knows that isn’t the key to happiness. I just expected more emotional depth than was in the story. I’m hoping that the next Fast Track novel gets back to where the first two were.
This was another great week, but not as great as last week. This week I got 8 books in the mail. 7 review and 1 purchased. This is probably the last week for awhile that I will get a lot of review books.
This week’s books are:
THE DARKEST HOUR by Maya Banks – I’ve already read this one. I immediately picked it up as soon as the package came. FANTASTIC book – I want the next one in the series asap.
WICKED SURRENDER by Jade Lee – I’ve read this one too. (I got a lot of reading done this week)
IMPROPER LADIES by Amanda McCabe – two historical romances in one book!
CROSS YOUR HEART by Michele Bardsley – I love this series!!

Did anybody get a book they are really excited about this week?

Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your information. Remember to comment on all the posts for the week to get more entries. Next Friday’s book is SIN UNDONE by Larissa Ione. I have three copies to give away!!
I’m going to start doing my contests a little differently. Instead of just comments on Friday’s post it will be comments for the whole week (Monday-Sunday). I will still post the contest on Friday, but all comments will go into the hat. The more you comment the more chances to win the contest.
This week’s contest is for a copy of Awakened By a Kiss by Lila DiPasqua.
About the book:
Three classic fairy tales – “Sleeping Beauty,” “Puss in Boots,” and “Little Red Riding Hood” – cleverly retold with enough sensual twists to prove that wickedly ever after does exist…
Sleeping Beau: Five years ago, the notorious rake, Adrien d’Aspe, Marquis deBeaulain, was awakened by a sensuous kiss – and experienced a night of raw ecstasy that was branded into his memory. Years later, he spots his mysterious seductress – and this time, he has no intention of letting her go…
Little Red Writing: Nicolas de Savignac, Comte de Lambelle, has been assigned by the King to uncover the secret identity of the author writing scandalous stories about powerful courtiers. He never expected his investigation would lead to his grandmother’s house, or to a ravishing woman who would stir his deepest hunger…
Bewitching in Boots: Elisabeth deRoussel, daughter of the Kind, is accustomed to getting what she wants – and she wants Tristan deTiersonnier, Comte de Saint-Marcel, and ex-commander of the King’s private Guard. A recent injury has forced Tristan to leave his distinguished position, but Elisabeth is determined to make him see he’s every bit the man he once was – and more than man enough for her…

Since time began, the Earth has served as a balance between the world of darkness that is the Abyss, and the paradise known as Eden. Now the battle between good and evil has reached a tipping point, and survival depends on one fallen demon— and the woman he can’t resist…
This book worked for me on some levels and didn’t on others. I loved the main couple. Dax and Eddy were fantastic. From the very beginning they have amazing chemistry and the progression of their relationship (very fast) fit into the story perfectly. Dax only has 7 days on Earth so they don’t have time to be wishy-washy about their feelings. The part that didn’t work for me was the demon’s taking up residence in garden statuary. It was beyond silly and kept pulling me out of the story. Images like the neighbor’s turkey lawn art attacking him just didn’t seem to fit into the story to me. I couldn’t tell if I was supposed to be laughing or not. The rest of the story is serious “we have to save the planet” type action so the two just didn’t fit for me. I am interested to see how the next book in the series plays out though. I want to know what happens to the characters after the end of the story. I’m just hoping for no more possessed lawn decor.
I just don’t have time to keep up with the reviews like I used to, so in addition to Mailbox Monday I’m going to do Whatcha Reading Wednesday. So tell me what you’re reading!
I’m reading two books. CLOSE QUARTERS by Lucy Monroe and HELLFIRE by Kate Douglas. I started one and it wasn’t what I wanted to read right then so I started the other. I have one in the car for when I’m waiting to pick up kids from school and the other on my nightstand.
Lord Jarret Sharpe has spent a lifetime trying to make fate pay, wielding cards like a weapon at anyone who dares to mention the scandal surrounding his parents’ deaths. But he can only seem to win when he doesn’t care about the outcome, so he’s learned to be indifferent to everything. The only thing he’s passionate about is running the Sharpe family brewery.
Annabel Lake is determined to remain a spinster – running her family’s brewery is enough of a challenge. And when the brewery is in danger of going out of business, she needs help from her stubborn competitor, Lord Jarret. Knowing Jarret’s reputation as a gambler, she proposes a bet: a game of cards wagering her mother’s ring – and a night in her bed – against his help with the business.
When Annabel wins the bet, Jarret reluctantly travels to Burton to help her. There, he finds more than just a struggling female brewer – he finds his heart. And Annabel, who has nothing but contempt for inveterate gamblers, discovers that some men are worth the risk.
This is the second book in the Hellions of Halstead Hall series and I liked it as much as I did the first book (THE TRUTH ABOUT LORD STONEVILLE). Annabel is a fantastic character. She is feisty and at the same time very vulnerable. Her past has shaped who she is and has stunted her growth as an individual. Jarret brings out something in her that has been missing and she does the same for him. The story moves at a fast pace and the dialogue between Jarret and Annabel is fantastic. A must-read for historical romance fans.
I have seen this on many different blogs and decided to start posting the books I buy, win or receive for review each week. This past week was a big week for my mailbox. I ended up with over 20 new books!
