Review: The Sweetest Deal by Mary Campisi

772653961From NetGalley:

An impossible demand…

Max Jernigan is ready to close the most important business deal of his life-all he has to do is agree to one request from Grayson Crowell: impregnate the mogul’s daughter.

No way can Max do this. He’s a decent guy. But he would love a child. He just doesn’t want a wife.

An impossible man…

C.C. Crowell gave up on dreams of a family after Mr. Worse-Than-Wrong broke her heart. Hiding behind spreadsheets, boring suits and an icy attitude, she’s more than a little suspicious when arrogant, handsome Max is suddenly chasing her. But she can’t deny their chemistry. Until she learns about the deal and plans to pay Max back0 in kind….

I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed it while reading (which is very important), but thinking about it for the review there were some things I realized I didn’t like. The thing I think bothered me the most was Max’s past is mentioned in a round-about way, but he never discussed things with C.C. They mainly have sex and she tells him things about her past. Also, Max changes his opinion on marriage and love so quickly that it is unbelievable. He goes from never wanting to be married to head-over-heels in love in the span of a few weeks. The ending was also very abrupt. But, with all those negatives I still enjoyed the book while I was reading it and would like to read more by this author.

Review: UNDENIABLY YOURS by Shannon Stacey

84195030From NetGalley:

One-night stand + two percent condom failure rate = happily ever after?

Bar owner Kevin Kowalski is used to women throwing their phone numbers at him, but lately he’s more interested in finding a woman to settle down with. A woman like Beth Hansen. If only their first meeting hadn’t gone so badly…

Beth’s tending bar at a wedding when she comes face-to-face with a tuxedo-clad man she never thought she’d see again. She tries to keep her distance from Kevin but, by last call, she can’t say no to his too-blue eyes or the invitation back to his room. Then she slips out before breakfast without leaving a note and, despite their precautions, pregnant.

Kevin quickly warms to the idea of being a dad and to seeing where things go with Beth. After all, he’s not the player she thinks he is. But she’s not ready for a relationship and, given his reputation, it’s going to take a lot to convince her to go on a second date with the father of her child..

I love the Kowalski’s and was very excited to find another book about one of the Kowalski men. Kevin was funny and sweet in the first book and that carried over to UNDENIABLY YOURS. Ms. Stacey has a fantastic way with dialogue - the men sound like men. Keven and Beth are a fun. I really liked how it wasn’t a let’s get married because we’re pregnant kind of book. Beth knows her mind and doesn’t let Kevin run over her no matter how much easier it would be to let him in. I hope there are more stories focusing on the Kowalski clan.

Saturday Video – Christmas Music!!

I am a huge fan of Christmas music and romance novels. I try to hold off until after Thanksgiving, but usually don’t make it that long (I didn’t this year). I was, however, able to refrain from posting anything about it on here…till now. This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. What’s your favorite holiday song?

Review and Giveaway: Rules of an Engagement by Suzanne Enoch

72283504From the back of the book:

For proper young ladies, good behavior has always been the rule…

Captain Bradshaw Carroway loves the seafaring life – though he’d rather be battling brigands than his current assignment of ferrying a boatload of spoiled aristocrats. One passenger, however, has caught his eye: a bewitching young minx who definitely distracts him from the rules of shipboard decorum…

Some rules, of course, are meant to be broken.

Miss Zephyr Ponsley has traveled the world, but she’s completely innocent in the ways of love. She’s never learned to dance or flirt. But scientific observation has taught her that the laws of attraction have no rules, and that no adventure, on land or seas, is more dangerous – or delicious – than passion!

RULES OF AN ENGAGEMENT is an enchanting read. I loved the adventurous feel of both the setting and the romance. These two characters are unaccustomed to the “rules” of a relationship. The best thing about this book is where it takes place. Taking the characters out of the normal historical background – London – and putting them on a ship in the middle of the ocean and visiting islands not inhabited by civilized people added a freshness to the book. Shaw and Zephyr are both very funny and I loved their bantering back and forth with each other.

Review: Trust Me On This by Jennifer Crusie

73513270From the back of the book:

Dennie Banks is an investigative reporter chasing down the biggest story of her career. Alec Prentice is a government agent working undercover to catch an elusive grifter. When they meet by accident, it’s a case of mistaken identities at first sight. What they don’t mistake is the instant attraction they have for each other, an attraction they’ll do everything in their power to resist because Dennie thinks that Alec is running interference for her interview subject, and Alec suspects that Dennie is linked to his swindler. As the confusion grows, so do their feelings for each other, and what begins as a romantic comedy of errors may just end in the love affair of a lifetimes.

I loved this book. It was so funny and lighthearted – exactly what I was looking for when I picked it up. Most of the plot relies on mistaken identity and the immediate attraction between Dennie and Alec. This book isn’t very deep or emotional. It is the perfect read when you just want to escape and laugh.
