REVIEW: THE PERILS OF PLEASURE by Julie Anne Long

A rescued rogue…

Scandal has rocked the city of London. Colin Eversea, a handsome, reckless, unapologetic rogue, is sentenced to hang for murder and, inconveniently for him, the only witness to the crime disappears. Then again, throughout history, the Everseas have always managed to cheat fate in style: Colin is snatched from the gallows by a beautiful, clever mercenary.

A captivating captor…

Cool-headed, daring Madeleine Greenway is immune to Colin’s vaunted charm. Her mission is not to rescue Colin but to kidnap him, and to be paid handsomely for it. But when it becomes clear that whoever wants Colin alive wants a deadly race for truth. Together, they’ll face great danger – and a passion neither can resist.

This is the first book in the Pennyroyal Green series. I’ve had it on my shelf for awhile and just decided that I had to read the series after finishing TO LOVE A THIEF. I enjoyed this book, but found the romance a little lacking. Most of the story focuses on Colin and Madeleine’s quest to find out who tried to kill her and who saved him from hanging. Along the way they grow close to each other, but the ending kind of comes out of nowhere with the professions of love. Colin was in love with someone else before being put on trial and spends a lot of the book talking about the “perfect Louise”, so for him to all of a sudden be in love with Madeleine was a little hard to accept. I did love the writing and found the writers “voice” really entertaining. I will┬ádefinitely┬ábe reading more in this series.

the book girl gives THE PERILS OF PLEASURE a 3/5
