Review: A TALE OF TWO LOVERS by Maya Rodale

968364571From NetGalley:

Lord Simon Roxbury is a godsend to gossip columnists everywhere. This notorious rake has recently been caught in an extremely compromising position by none other than The London Weekly’s Lady of Distinction. Rumor also has it that Lord R received an ultimatum: be wed or be penniless. As A Lady of Distinction, Lady Julianna Somerset typically reports on other people’s scandals, but soon she finds herself embroiled in a very public battle with an irate Lord Roxbury — one that leaves her reputation in tatters and her position at The Weekly on the line. With no other choice available, these two enemies unite in a marriage of convenience to rescue both their reputations and secure his fortune. With their rivals intent on revealing the charade, Lady Julianna and Lord Simon inevitably surrender to temptation. It may just be a love match after all. . . .

I loved the first “writing girls” book and was very excited to read the next one in the series. I didn’t love A TALE OF TWO LOVERS as much as I did A GROOM OF ONE’S OWN. Julianna is a little immature at times and I couldn’t get past the fact that although she reported something she knew was false, she wouldn’t print a retraction. Simon is a bit of a jerk, too. I enjoyed him becoming a social pariah. Their relationship evolves slowly and I really liked how they went from enemies to lovers. The writing is fantastic and the story never bored me. The only part I struggled with was the characters themselves, I just had trouble liking them.

the book girl gives A TALE OF TWO LOVERS a 3/5
