Review: MIDNIGHT’S WILD PASSION by Anna Campbell

98458540From NetGalley:

The dashing, licentious Marquess of Ranelaw can never forgive Godfrey Demarest for ruining his sister — now the time has come to repay the villain in the same coin. But one formidably intriguing impediment stands in the way of Nicholas’s vengeance: Miss Antonia Smith, companion to his foe’s unsuspecting daughter.

Having herself been deceived and disgraced by a rogue — banished by her privileged family as a result and forced to live a lie — Antonia vows to protect her charge from the same cruel fate. She recognizes Ranelaw for the shameless blackguard that he is and will devote every ounce of her intelligence and resolve to thwarting him.

Yet Antonia has always had a fatal weakness for rakes. . .

So many great books are being released the this week and MIDNIGHT’S WILD PASSION is definitely at the top of that list! Anna Campbell excels at the tortured hero, and although Nicholas is more lonely than tortured he is a perfect hero in need of redemption. Their romance isn’t conventional and takes place more in the bedroom than anywhere else, but the emotion behind their encounters is unforgettable.

There are several lines in the book, that I thought were fantastic. First, this line is Antonia’s feelings on her first night with Nicholas.

“She was fatalistically aware that she’d never want another man this way again. Tonight would scar her soul.”

Second, a description of a kiss.

“…his mouth crashed down on hers with a passion so powerful, it rattled the doors of heaven.”

Aren’t those fantastic? It was the first time I had to use my highlight function on the Kindle to remember a line in a book.

The changes in Nicholas, from rake to a man drastically changed by love, makes MIDNIGHT’S WILD PASSION one of my favorite books of the year. In the beginning he is an unlikeable character, but he changes so much (or really becomes his true self) that all is forgiven by Antonia and the reader.

Antonia wasn’t as real to me. She is also changed by love and her relationship, but it isn’t the same as Nicholas’s change.

I can’t wait to read more by Anna Campbell and I think everyone who is a fan of historical romance MUST buy this book!

the book girl gives MIDNIGHT’S WILD PASSION a 5/5
