Review: WHAT I DID FOR DUKE by Julie Ann Long

94437409From the back of the book:

For years, he’s been an object of fear, fascination…and fantasy. but of all the wicked rumors that shadow the formidable Alexander Moncrieffe, Duke of Falconbridge, the ton knows one thing for certain: only fools dare cross him. And when Ian Eversea does just that, Moncrieffe knows the perfect revenge: he’ll seduce Ian’s innocent sister, Genevieve – the only Eversea as yet untouched by scandal. First he’ll capture her heart…and then he’ll break it.

But everything about Genevieve is unexpected: the passion simmering beneath her cool control, the sharp wit tempered by gentleness…And though Genevieve has heard the whispers about the duke’s dark past, and knows she trifles with him at her peril, one incendiary kiss tempts her deeper into a world of extraordinary sensuality. Until Genevieve is faced with a fateful choice…is there anything she won’t do for a duke?

There was a lot of hype around this book and I was a little nervous when I started reading it. I worried that I wouldn’t love it as much as everyone else seemed to. Luckily, all my fears were unfounded. I loved this book. There are moments that had me laughing and parts that had me swooning. Genevieve is a very interesting character. Everyone around her thinks that she is shy, but in reality she is anything but. The Duke allows her to be herself. She doesn’t temper her speech around him at all. The Duke is a delight too. Although all of London is afraid of him, especially Genevieve’s brother Ian, he isn’t really terrible or frightening. He has been burned in the past and tries not to let anyone too close – until Genevieve. I love this couple. I love the way they interact and the chemistry between the two of them. The whole cast of characters in the book, Genevieve’s family and friend, make the book fun. The way Alex torments Ian kept me laughing through the whole book. I also liked how smart Genevieve is and how she doesn’t hide that intelligence from Alex. Everything about this book is FABULOUS! I hope that we get Ian’s story soon (and Olivia’s).

the book girl gives WHAT I DID FOR A DUKE a 5/5

  1. Wasn’t this book good? I really enjoyed it. And half of what I adored most about it was Ian’s torture, haha 😉 I bet, whenever he gets his own book, he will be more mature because of it.

  2. I’ve got this on my Kindle but haven’t read it yet. I have only read good things about it however…might have to bump it up the ‘to read’ list!

  3. What a great story this was! I really enjoy stories where everything turns out not to be what you thought.
