Review: TOO TEMPTING TO RESIST by Cara Elliott

About the book:

In the Wolf’s Lair . . .

Determined to stop her wayward brother from squandering their dwindling fortune, Lady Eliza Brentford decides to follow him to his favorite den of depravity. There, among the candlelight and raucous revelry, she encounters her brother’s role model in debauchery, the notorious Marquess of Haddan, Gryffin Dwight. Staring into his smoldering green eyes, Eliza can’t help but find the rakehell nobleman seductively charming-and sinfully attractive.

In a Lover’s Paradise . . .

When Gryffin appears on Eliza’s estate as a guest of her brother, a stolen kiss among the garden’s blooms leads to a night of unbridled passion. Suddenly the lovely widow feels herself opening up, like the petals of a rose. Could this master of seduction possibly feel true emotion for Eliza? Or is he leading her down the garden path to an Eden of delights no woman can resist-and a fall no woman can escape?

I really enjoyed this book. Gryffin isn’t a typical regency hero and Eliza is tough yet vulnerable. Eliza isn’t afraid to admit that she enjoys when Gryffin is there for her. She knows that she can’t continue doing everything on her own as she has until she meets Gryffin. Gryffin is restless and wants something more from his life, but he isn’t sure what until he meets Eliza.  Their attraction is immediate and overwhelming to the both of them. I loved their back and forth banter and how they just fell into a comfortable relationship with each other. The only think that didn’t work for me was the overly sweet ending. It does fit the characters, but the flowery speeches about their love were a bit over the top. This doesn’t really take away from the story as a whole, but made the ending my least favorite part of the book.

I have been on a DNF kick lately. Nothing I’ve picked up has been enjoyable or something I want to finish reading. That rut was broken by TOO TEMPTING TO RESIST by Cara Elliot. I am at about 90% and have loved every word of the book.

Review: A GENTLEMAN SAYS “I DO” by Amelia Grey

About the book:

Her Writing Talent is Causing All Kinds of Trouble…

The daughter of a famous writer, Catalina Crisp has helped her father publish a parody that makes Iverson Brentwood’s whole family the talk of the town, and not in a good way.

Because He’s the Reality Behind the Story…

Furious and threatening, Iverson storms into Catalina’s house, demanding satisfaction, but the infamous rake has finally met his match. With her cool demeanor and intense intelligence, Catalina heats his blood like no other woman in his notorious history…

I’m a huge Amelia Grey fan, because her books are just so romantic. I loved the connection between Iverson and Catalina. They are almost instantly head over heels for each other, but they both fight it in the beginning. Iverson is a typical alpha male – he believes that his way is the best way and will do anything to get what he wants – this includes Catalina. There are the normal misunderstandings and truth being kept from each other. What I loved about this book, was that although there are these  misunderstandings Iverson doesn’t give up on Catalina in the end. He realizes that no matter what she’s done that he loves her more than his pride. This is the type of book that leaves you smiling when you finish reading.

Review: GUARDING JESS by Shannon Curtis

About the book:

Jessica Pennington’s work as an etiquette coach requires her to be polite and proper at all times, especially now that she has a book coming out. The only thing that rattles her reserve is the increasingly violent emails and texts from her persistent stalker. With the book launch in jeopardy, she reluctantly hires a bodyguard.

Noah Samuels hates stuck-up, prim people like Jessica. He’s more the blunt, straightforward type. But to advance up the ranks at McCormack Security, he has to take the high-profile assignment. After a near miss on his first day on the job, Noah realizes that the stalker isn’t just hype cooked up to sell books-the threat is real.

As the stalker escalates from letters to letter bombs, Noah sees a vulnerable side of Jessica that rouses more than just his protective instincts. But can she let down her guard long enough to trust Noah before it’s too late?

I really liked the first book in this series, VIPER’S KISS, so I was excited to read another book about the men of McCormack Security. I wasn’t disappointed. Noah and Jessica seem like complete opposites, but really have much more in common than they know. I loved how they were at odds with each other when they didn’t really need to be. The escalation of the stalker was fantastically done. I figured out the bad guy just before it was revealed, but for most of the book I thought it was another character completely. The romance between Noah and Jessica is fleshed out and has a real feel to it. I loved how they fought their attraction to each other until one day they just had to be together. It was a need instead of a want. The story moves quickly and is written well. The reader is entertained through the entire book.

Whatcha Reading Wednesday

I’m not reading anything today! It’s the last day of school and I’m trying to get all of the things done that are impossible to get done with three kids at home. Plus, our air conditioner and garbage disposal are broken and I can’t read while hot!

I hope to get back on track tomorrow!

Blog Tour Review: LUCKY IN LOVE by Jill Shalvis

About the book:

Sometimes it’s good to be bad…

Mallory Quinn has had enough playing it safe. As a nurse and devoted daughter, she takes care of everyone but herself. And as the local good girl, she’s expected to date Mr. Right. But for once she’d like to take a risk on Mr. Wrong. And who could be more wrong than Ty Garrison? The mysterious new guy in town has made it clear that he’s only passing through, which suits Mallory just fine. Besides, his lean, hard body and sexy smile will give her plenty to remember once he’s gone…

For the first time in his life, Ty can’t bear to leave. Helping this sexy seductress-in-training walk on the wild side is making him desire things he shouldn’t – including leaving the military for good. As their just-for-fun fling becomes something more, Mallory and Ty wonder if they could really be this lucky in love. After all…anything can happen in a town called Lucky Harbor.

After reading LUCKY IN LOVE, I’m not really sure that Jill Shalvis can write a book that I don’t instantly love. I always think that the last one I read is my all-time favorite. LUCKY IN LOVE is the fourth book in the Lucky Harbor series. I was tickled when I read that this series was going to continue and even more excited when I saw who this book features – Mysterious Cute Guy!! I was so intrigued by this character with no name in the last Lucky Harbor book and loved that we were finally going to get to know him and boy was he worth the wait. Ty is sexy with a capital S! There is something appealing about his past – he’s damaged, but still totally lovable – that drew me in from the first scene. I had to know what had happened to him and what in the world was going to make him stop reliving his nightmares and find happiness. Of course, it’s Mallory who’s going to be just what he needs. I love how Mallory jumps right in to the bad boy thing even though she is the town’s good girl. She has a moment of being the “bad girl” and goes for it. These two work so well together that I was rooting for them from the moment they met (when he’s practically unconscious and she’s scared out of her mind and whacks him in the head with a cell phone). The humor I’ve come to expect is present in LUCKY IN LOVE and can Jill Shalvis write a sex scene – whew! If you haven’t read a Jill Shalvis book before walk…no run…to the bookstore today and BUY. THIS. BOOK! (Or you can enter my contest and maybe win a copy for yourself )
