Review: LET ME IN by Callie Croix

About the book:

On leave for Thanksgiving, the last thing marine lieutenant Talia Barnett expects to find is Liam Brodie waiting for her at the airport. He’s had a starring role in her fantasies for the past two years, and although she’d love to make them a reality, she has a dark secret that prevents her from taking things further.

A former marine, Liam’s specialty is planning tactical operations, and that’s just what he plans to do to win Talia. The woman has kept him at arm’s length for too long, and this time he’s finally going to claim her-body and heart.

What begins as comfort quickly turns hot. When Liam shows Talia a hint of the dominant nature inside him, the submissive part of her flares to life. Though she desires him, she’s going back on deployment and doesn’t want to dump all her drama on him. Will he find a way to break through the protective walls around her heart and convince her they have a future that goes far beyond the bedroom?

LET ME IN is a very emotional novella. A lot happens to Talia in a very short time, but instead of feeling like we only get the surface there is depth to the character. There isn’t as much to Liam, but he felt like more of a supporting character to me. Talia is the focus of the story and the romance helps her overcome and deal with the things happening around her. The story is short, but didn’t feel rushed. The sex scenes are hot and I fully believed in the happily ever after.

Review: CRAZY ON YOU by Rachel Gibson

About the book:

Return to Lovett, Texas, the setting of Daisy’s Back in Town, in this smart and sexy new story from Rachel Gibson, the New York Times bestselling author of Rescue Me and the Seattle Chinooks books.

Lily Darlington’s been called crazy in her day—and, yeah, driving her car into her ex-husband’s living room probably wasn’t the smartest move ever made—but the louse deserved it. Now Lily is happily single, and she’s turned it all around. She knows she’s a good mom, a homeowner, and a businesswoman, all wrapped up in one good-looking package.

A package that police officer Tucker Matthews is dying to unwrap. This ex-military man sure doesn’t need another woman in his life. His last girlfriend left him with nothing but memories and a cat named Pinky! But living next door to Lily has been driving him nuts. He dreams about her long blonde hair and even longer legs. And maybe it’s time to go a little crazy . . . and fall in love.

This very short (estimated at 80 pgs) is a reintroduction to Lovett, TX the setting of DAISY’S BACK IN TOWN and the upcoming RESCUE ME. I enjoyed the story, but felt that it moved at such a quick pace that some important things were skipped. In fact, there was one place where the transition from neighbors who just met to Tucker telling Lily he wanted something real with her that made me double back to make sure I didn’t miss anything.  (I didn’t) The characters are fun and the romance sizzling. CRAZY ON YOU is worth the $1.99 and works as a reintroduction, but not as a complete and satisfying story.
