Review: RESCUE MY HEART by Jill Shalvis

About the book:

She never wants a hero…

After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past—the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.

Holly learned the hard way to never depend on a man for anything. Now, of all men, Adam is the last one she wants to see, and the only one she needs. Her father has gone missing in the Bitterroot Mountains and she could use someone with tracking skills to help find him.

For Holly and Adam, each with their ghosts, a trek this desperate, this unpredictable, and this intimate, will have its share of risks—including opening their hearts one more time.

The third Animal Magnetism book is definitely my favorite in the series. Adam has been a bit of a mystery throughout the series. He was so broken by the things that he saw and did during his time in the service, but with the help of his brothers and their women he has finally found a way to cope. He isn’t healed and he hasn’t found peace, but he’s coping and improving day-to-day. Holly is the only girl he ever loved. He let her go when they were teenagers because he knew that he was heading down a path that would destroy them both if he didn’t find a way off of it. Now, Holly needs his help and Adam is unable to say no. I love these two together. Holly is the perfect woman for Adam. She doesn’t baby him or pity him. She gives him room to breathe and the space he needs, while still being there for him when he needs her. Holly needs Adam too. He shows her how much she needs to be with someone she loves and who loves her in return. That she has to risk her heart for true love and that it is worth fighting for. I love how hard she fights for him. In typical Jill Shalvis fashion there are moments of hilarity, sweet emotion, and sexy romance. RESCUE MY HEART is a must-read for fans of contemporary romance.

the book girl gives RESCUE MY HEART a 5/5
