Review: THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT LADY MARY by Sophie Barnes

About the book:

Mary Croyden lives a simple life . . . and she likes it. But when she inherits a title and a large sum of money, everything changes. Forced to navigate high society, Mary finds herself relying on the help of one man-Ryan Summersby. Determined not to lose her sense of self, she realizes that Ryan is the only person she can trust. But Mary’s hobbies are not exactly proper, and Ryan is starting to discover that this simple miss is not at all what he expected . . . but just might be exactly what he needs.

I really enjoyed THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT LADY MARY by Sophie Barnes. There’s a delightful mix of romance, intrigue, and fun. The relationship between Mary and Ryan goes from hot to cold a few more times than I would have liked it to, but I did think that it worked for the characters. They are both headstrong and independent. Mary won’t let Ryan tell her what to do and it causes a lot of friction between them. The mystery doesn’t overshadow the romance, but  keeps the story going. The writing is witty and fantastic. I was drawn right into the story and couldn’t stop reading.

Review: REAL MEN DON’T BREAK HEARTS by Coleen Kwan

About the book:

Ally Griffin is horrified to learn her new landlord is none other than the infuriating playboy Nate Hardy—the man she blames for getting her jilted at the altar six years ago. Plus, now her ex-fiancé is back in their hometown of Burronga, Australia, to marry his beautiful new bride…for real this time. Everybody’s treating Ally with kid gloves, as though she’s still heartbroken, but she’s just fine, thank you very much.

Nate Hardy is tired of his high-flying city career and bachelor lifestyle and is looking for something more real. The last thing he needs is to find himself undeniably attracted to Ally, the woman with whom he never saw eye-to-eye. But is he even capable of what Ally wants and deserves?

As Ally tries to pull her life out of the rut it’s fallen in, she doesn’t count on Nate stirring up her emotions. A short-term fling with the resident bad boy is practically irresistible, but only if she can guard her heart…

REAL MEN DON’T BREAK HEARTS is a wonderful contemporary romance. Ally and Nate have known each other for a long time, but haven’t seen each other since he told her that her fiance (his cousin) wasn’t coming to their wedding. When they meet again there is still some anger on her side, but also something else. I loved the tension between them and how it takes both Ally and Nate awhile to realize that the reason they feel the way they do is because of their attraction. Ally believes that a fling with Nate would be the perfect way to shake up her life and have some fun, but she doesn’t plan on developing real feelings for him. I loved how this couple eventually finds their way together and to their happily ever after.
