About the book:
the stakes have never been higher…
An avid gamer, Jamie Marten loves to escape into online adventure. But when she falls through an antique mirror into a lavish bedchamber – 200 years in the past! – she realizes she may have escaped a little too far.
Micah Axelby, Earl of Dunnington, has just kicked one mistress out of his bed and isn’t looking to fill it with another – least of all this sassy, nearly naked woman who claims to be from the future. Yet something about her is undeniably enticing…
Jamie and Micah are worlds apart. He’s a peer of the realm. She can barely make rent. He’s horse-drawn. She’s Wi-Fi. But soon the pair will do anything to avoid a Game Over.
THE GEEK GIRL AND THE SCANDALOUS EARL is a fantastic book. I loved every moment of it. I laughed at Jamie’s attempts to acclimate to life in the 1800’s and Micah’s obsession with Angry Birds. There were also places that I felt so bad for the position that Jamie found herself in. She was torn between her new feelings for Mike and her desire to return to her new time.
He was a guy that she should never even have met. She loved a guy that she would have to abandon her entire life to be with. Her friends, her house, her computer, her shower. Shower. Running Water. Toothbrushes. Those neat little personal hand-sanitizer bottles.
Jamie is in a world were she knows only Mike, his servants and his dog. She spends her days trapped in his house so that no one finds out that she is scandalously living with a single man. I loved some of the ways that she tries to entertain herself without the devices she is used to.
She tried to teach Baron to howl after she said the word “ThunderCats,” but he lost interest and wandered into the kitchen.
Mike has far less adjustments to do, but still has to come to terms with Jamie’s brash ways and “vulgar” mouth. I love the way her starts to enjoy the way she speaks her mind when initially he hated it.
THE GEEK GIRL AND THE SCANDALOUS EARL had me laughing and in a few places had my heart aching as Jamie and Mike fought to find their way together. My only complaint is that I would have liked to see a glimpse of what happened to them a few years down the road. Once they finally found their happily ever after there were still going to be lots of compromises and changes. I would have loved an epilogue that showed those a little bit.
the book girl gives THE GEEK GIRL AND THE SCANDALOUS EARL a 4/5
