Review: The Wrong Billionaire’s Bed by Jessica Clare

9781101623558_p0_v2_s260x420

About the book:

The Billionaire Boys Club is a secret society of six men who have vowed success—at any cost. Not all of them are old money, but all of them are incredibly wealthy. They’re just not always as successful when it comes to love…

Audrey Petty’s always been the responsible one. The good twin.  Successful, dependable, and trustworthy—that’s Audrey. She’d be the perfect girlfriend for her childhood crush, billionaire Cade Archer…except that she’s pretty sure she’s not even on his radar. But when fate (and her chaotic twin) come together, Audrey finds out that she’ll be spending the next month with Cade at his remote cabin retreat. It’s a dream come true…

Until she meets her worst nightmare.

Billionaire playboy Reese Durham is used to seducing women to get what he wants. But when stiff, too-proper Audrey bursts into the private mountain lodge and scares his companion out the door, it’s time for a little revenge. It’s clear that Audrey’s in love with his buddy, Cade…and it’s clear to Reese that blackmailing Audrey with this information can get her to agree to just about anything. Like furtive kisses in the dark, or a secret rendezvous in the woods. Audrey may think she knows what she wants, but Reese is determined to show her what she needs.

And as Reese discovers the volatile minx behind the buttoned-up exterior, he starts to think maybe she’s just what he needs, too.

THE WRONG BILLIONAIRE’S BED is the third book in the Billionaire Boys Club series. Audrey is responsible, uptight, and dependable. When her twin sister needs her she will do anything to make sure that Daphne gets the help she needs – especially if it means she gets to spend time with Cade. Her feelings for Cade have been around for a long time and she sees the time at the cabin with him as a way to start a romantic relationship, but she doesn’t count on Reese Durham being there getting in the way. I love the way Reese pushes Audrey’s buttons. There is so much tension between the two of them. I love how their relationship changes from one of frustration, blackmail, and angry words to hot encounters in the woods and bets with the loser being the others love slave. There are a lot of emotional moments in THE WRONG BILLIONAIRE’S BED between Audrey and her sister and between Audrey and Reese. The author does a fantastic job writing the emotional scenes. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

HIS UNTIL MIDNIGHT by Nikki Logan

About the book:

He could look …and this time he can touch!

Each year, Hong Kong’s most kissable businessman Oliver Harmer allows himself one Christmas present: a lavish meal with off-limits Audrey Devaney. Keeping her at arm’s length—quite literally!—is a battle of epic proportions for Oliver, but also an irresistible temptation. Until the year she doesn’t come.

Now the rules have changed! Because, this Christmas, Audrey is single, and Oliver must decide if he will let her run away at midnight for good, or fight for her to stay until morning!

I enjoyed 75% of this story. I loved the idea of a couple, meeting year after year in friendship and that friendship evolving into something else. My problem with the story is that it felt like it went on forever and ever. The pace of the story is very slow. I liked the characters and the idea of the story, but the pacing just didn’t work for me.

A BEAUTY UNCOVERED by Andrea Laurence

A beastly boss is tamed in this Secrets of Eden book from Andrea Laurence…

CEO Brody Eden is a loner. The brooding billionaire has secrets that he refuses to unveil to anyone…until he meets his new assistant, Samantha Davis. She’s temptation personified, and she’s sitting right outside his door.

Samantha’s never met a man as guarded—and gorgeous—as Brody. She doesn’t want to fall for her boss, but there’s something about Brody…. Beneath his gruff manner, Sam senses tenderness—and an intense passion waiting to be unleashed. And she’ll make it her mission to enter his lair …and his bed.

I enjoyed this book. Brody is gruff, grumpy, and immediately attracted to his temporary secretary. Samantha has been burned once before by being attracted to her boss and doesn’t plan on falling into that trap again, but when she finally sees the reclusive Brody Eden she can’t help herself. I loved Brody and Samantha together. She doesn’t care about his scars and shows him that there is so much more to him that his outer appearance. Brody undergoes a huge transformation through the story. There is a subplot between his brothers and an old murder that doesn’t get resolved (it carries into the next book in the series).

THE CONSEQUENCES OF THAT NIGHT by Jennie Lucas

About the book:

An indecent indiscretion!

Emma Hayes has gone from making hotel magnate Cesare Falconeri’s bed to running his household, including handing out expensive parting gifts to his numerous conquests! But each time, it’s chipped away at her heart. Until one night, inhibitions lowered, she reaches for what she’s always wanted….

With one disastrous marriage behind him Cesare vows never to go there again. But when his indiscretion with Emma has consequences, Cesare must break his own vow—and say I do for the sake of his heir. Now he’ll expect his new bride to share his bed, instead of making it!

I had a hard time liking the main characters in this book. Cesare was a jerk to Emma over and over, yet she forgives him. She doesn’t hold him responsible for his actions on many occasions. It is almost the end of the book before Emma comes into her own and gets stronger. At the same time Cesare realizes what he’s giving up by not letting himself truly love Emma. The happily ever after is wonderful it just takes a while to get there.

Review: Everything You Need To Know by HelenKay Dimon

9781459245983_p0_v12_s260x420

About the book:

Welcome to Need to Know—Because a Woman Can’t Be Too Informed

Dating in D.C. is like navigating an apocalyptic wasteland populated by men in expensive suits with zero mating potential. Need to Know provides all the information a savvy single woman like you needs to avoid dating disasters.

By night, Jordan McAdam is the proprietor of a popular website that rates D.C.’s hottest bachelors—everything from how quick they are to email you back, to their skills in the sack. She’s been burned once too often to accept any man at face value. By day, her job as an office temp puts her in the perfect position to do a little fact-checking on her rich and powerful subjects. When her latest assignment brings her face-to-face with the sexy but mysterious Forest Redder, Jordan decides to do a little “hands-on” research of her own. To Jordan, he seems like the perfect man—but she knows there is no such thing. Moreover, there’s a big problem: Forest knows Jordan’s the woman behind the scandalous site—and Jordan knows he knows. Will he expose her secret—or find his own posted on Need to Know?

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW is one smoking hot novella! The tension between Jordan and Forest is off the charts. I loved the amount of character development in such a short story. The reader really gets to know Jordan and what makes her tick and why she started Need to Know. Forest’s reasons for wanting to in control of most situations is also revealed. I really liked this couple together – they complimented each other perfectly. The writing is sexy, fast-paced and witty. I also really liked the supporting characters and really hope that we get a story for Forest’s friend, Wen. There was something about him that I really, really liked!

Review: Chasing Morgan by Jennifer Ryan

9780062305978_p0_v1_s260x420

About the book:

Book Four in The Hunted Series …

FBI agent Tyler Reed trusts only facts and evidence, until the day a beautiful blonde delivers a life-saving warning … based on nothing more than a vision.

Five years later, the mysterious Morgan Standish has used her talents to help Tyler and the FBI bring down countless criminals. Still, Tyler knows next to nothing about her. She contacts him by phone—and by some sort of psychic connection he’s not prepared to admit exists—but has not shown herself once. Until now.

Morgan’s gift may let her see things others can’t, but it comes at a price. Getting too close to anyone is dangerous, especially the gorgeous, moody Special Agent Reed. For she’s seen the future: if they meet again too soon, an innocent could be lost.

But when Tyler’s latest case forces Morgan out of hiding, she is the one thrust into the path of a serial killer, the Psychic Slayer, who will stop at nothing to protect the secrets only Morgan can see.

I’m addicted to this series and couldn’t wait to read Tyler and Morgan’s story. I loved the story except for one thing – I wish that the author had brought Morgan and Tyler together sooner. They spend a good deal of the book apart (it’s for a legitimate reason) and I just wanted them to get together faster. Once they are together it is perfect.  Like the previous books there are lots of things that are a little out there – Morgan’s psychic ability, her telepathic connection with Tyler – but I loved it all. The writing is action packed as a serial killer hunts for Morgan and someone from her past is also out to hurt her. All of the couples from the previous books play an important role in CHASING MORGAN and I loved the family that they have built out of both real familial bonds and friendship. CHASING MORGAN is the last book in this series (except for a prequel novella coming out in December) and I’m going to miss these characters, but I can’t wait to see what this author writes next!

Review: Never Desire a Duke by Lily Dalton

9781455524013_p0_v2_s260x420

About the book:

A Marriage Beyond Hope

Lady Sophia has long been estranged from her husband, Vane Barwick, the Duke of Claxton, whose rumored list of amorous conquests includes almost every beautiful woman of the ton. Yet a shocking encounter with him in a crowded ballroom-and a single touch-are all it takes to reawaken her furious passion for him. But how can she trust the man who crushed her dreams and took away the one thing she wanted most?

A Love Beyond Reason

Claxton has never forgiven himself for the youthful mistake that ruined his marriage to Sophia. Now, after nearly a year abroad, the reformed rogue vows to win back the only woman he’s ever truly loved. He’ll do whatever it takes to prove he can be the honorable husband she deserves-and the passionate lover she desires. As the snowdrifts deepen outside their ancestral home, can they rekindle the flame that burned so bright and find a new path to forever?

NEVER DESIRE A DUKE by Lily Dalton is an emotional, romantic and wonderful historical romance about Christmas miracles and working toward a happily after ever after a tumultuous past. Sophia and Claxton were once very happy together, but after losing their unborn child they drifted apart and Sophia doesn’t believe that their marriage can be saved. However, there is one thing that she wants from him before they go their separate ways…a child. Claxton regrets leaving Sophia alone after the death of their baby and wants to be with her more than anything, but his past has caught up with him and he doesn’t truly believe that he is worthy of her. I loved these two together when they are fighting with each other and when they are getting along. There is a lot for Sophia and Claxton to work through before they can get back together and several things happen to get in their way. I loved the emotion in the story – there is so much love between Sophie and Claxton, but they just can’t seem to get passed the hurt. There is a perfect set-up for more books featuring secondary characters and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

Review: Her Favorite Rival by Sarah Mayberry

9780373718726_p0_v3_s260x420 About the book:

A new meaning for office politics

Audrey Mathews has worked hard to get here. Now she’s up for a promotion and nothing will stand in her way—including Zach Black. He’s hot, smart and the competition. When they’re assigned to the same project, she’s shocked at how much she actually likes about him…and how much she misjudged him.

Before long Audrey is seriously falling for Zach—and indulging in an affair that’s against company policy. And the stakes rise when it’s clear only one of them can get ahead. So where do they draw the line between competition and love? Especially when she doesn’t want to lose either the promotion or the guy….

Sarah Mayberry is one of my favorite Harlequin writers and HER FAVORITE RIVAL just might be my favorite book of hers so far. Audrey and Zach are both so fantastically not what they seem on the surface. Audrey seems to have it all together, but she is hiding a past and family issues that she hasn’t really dealt with. Zach comes across as a trust fund rich kid, but he as far from that as can be. They are rivals at work, but the attraction between them is the real problem. Their relationship develops slowly as they get to really know each other and battle their attraction for each other. HER FAVORITE RIVAL is the perfect read for those who like a little angst and deeper emotional background to their characters.

Review: Geek Girls Don’t Date Dukes by Gina Lamm

9781402277627_p0_v2_s260x420

About the book:

The Royal Treatment

All Leah wanted was a little gallantry. But in this day and age, chivalry was most definitely dead. If only there were a way to travel back in time and snag her very own duke…

Avery Russell was polishing some boots when a woman fell through the bedchamber mirror into his arms. All he could make out from her breathless babbling was some nonsense about “my one true love, Your Grace.” Clearly the chit was mad if she couldn’t tell a valet from a duke!

As much as Avery wanted to give in and give her a good tumble, he knew it wouldn’t be proper. No, he’d take as long as necessary to convince Leah that sometimes a duke just won’t do.

GEEK GIRLS DON’T DATE DUKES is a funny, romantic, emotional story. Leah just wants a man who will treat her right and it wouldn’t hurt if he looked like Colin Firth in Pride & Prejudice. Knowing that her best friend had fallen through a magic mirror and found her soul mate in the past, Leah decides to do the same. The story does take a lot of suspension of reality. The whole “my friend traveled through a mirror and so will I” thing is a little silly, but it fits Leah’s impulsive character. Avery is a wonderful character and different from the usual hero in a historical romance (even a time traveling one). Avery is the valet to the Duke that Leah believes she is meant to be and Avery wants to help her achieve her goal in any way he can. I love his protective instinct toward the crazy woman who falls out of the mirror. He immediately takes her under his protection and watches over her to make sure that she is treated well. When something from his past threatens her he does whatever necessary to keep her safe even if it means risking his own safety. Leah is so sure that she will fall in love with the duke on the other side of the mirror that she ignores her feelings for Avery until it is almost too late. I love Leah’s fish-out-of-water feelings toward being a servant in the past, Avery’s feelings for the girl from the future, and their time traveling happily ever after.

Review: Fearless by Tawny Webber

9781459245976_p0_v11_s260x420

About the book:

Promising career: check
Amazing apartment: check
The best of friends: check
Sex life: MIA

There’s just one thing missing from Gia Renyard’s life: sexual adventure. And the one man she’d like to have it with is her hot coworker Luke Monroe. If only company rules didn’t prohibit her from asking him out… So Gia comes up with a plan: make herself over into a fantasy seductress, follow Luke to a convention in Sin City and have her way with him for one erotic weekend. The man will never even know who did him.

Everything is going according to plan—until Gia discovers that Luke is perfect for her outside the bedroom, too. And suddenly she’s no longer content to let what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas….

FEARLESS is a sexy, fun read. Gia wants to live a fantasy. Her friends all have stories to tell and Gia’s life isn’t bad – just average. One night, with too many martinis and her Girlz, she sets out with a plan to seduce her hot coworker Luke and get her fantasy weekend. Luke has everything – a great job, good friends, and a date anytime he wants one, but it all seems to come to him too easy. Luke wants a challenge. These two have extreme chemistry, but Gia is pretending to be someone else and doesn’t want their weekend to go any further. I loved how these two come together. Gia steps out of her comfort zone and goes after what she wants. Of course it backfires on her and ends up being more than just great sex with Luke, and then she has to figure out what to do about that. Luke goes through changes after his weekend with Gia. She makes him realize what he wants out of his life and that he isn’t willing to settle for things being easy. The sex is hot, the romance fantastic, and the characters real – FEARLESS is a wonderful book!

Review: How to Date a Dragon by Ashlyn Chase

9781402275722_p0_v1_s260x420

About the book:

Let the Sparks Fly

Bliss Russo thought nothing exciting ever happened in her life. Until her building caught on fire and she had to be carried out of the flames in the arms of a gorgeous fireman. Sure, her apartment is now in shambles and she’ll have to start her huge work project completely from scratch. But at least her love life is finally looking up…if only she can find her red-hot rescuer again.

Dragon shapeshifter Drake Cameron is the last of his clan, and the loneliness is starting to claw at him. He’s met only one woman who might be able to stand the shock of his true nature. After all, she barely batted an eyelash when her home burned down. And feeling her curves against him was just as hot as the inferno. Just when he thinks he’ll never track her down, she walks into his firehouse—with no idea what she’s about to get herself into…

HOW TO DATE A DRAGON is a fun, sexy paranormal romance with a dragon shifter and a snarky heroine. Bliss is such a fun character – she’s snarky and tough. She bumps into Drake (literally) when escaping a fire in her apartment building. Instead of being grateful for getting out alive, she begs him to save her computer. Drake is completely enthralled by Bliss and the fact that the fire in her apartment didn’t cause her to have a total meltdown. He also found her totally hot! I loved how these two were drawn to each other from the first instant. Their romance is put to the test by another dragon shifter who is hot for Drake and the fact that Drake is a dragon is a problem for Bliss too. The book is lighthearted and fun. There are lots of very funny moments and some smoking hot sex scenes.

Review: Blue By You by Rachel Gibson

9780062247490_p0_v4_s260x420

About the book:

They say you never forget your first time, but there’s nothing Blue Butler and Kasper Pennington would rather forget than their brief but fiery teenage love affair. Yeah, it was hot while it lasted, but then he went off to join the Marines, leaving Blue in New Orleans. She’s tried to block him from her mind for good, but nothing can really erase the feeling she had when she was with him.

And now he’s got the nerve to return—leaner, meaner, and strong enough to pull her into his arms and kiss her senseless. Blue’s a successful businesswoman now, with no time to figure out what went wrong all those years ago. But Kasper knows she’s the one woman for him … and now he’s got to prove it to her all over again.

BLUE BY YOU is about second chances and finally being with the person you are meant to be with even if it is twenty years later. Blue and Kasper are from “rival” families and know that they shouldn’t even speak to each other, but it doesn’t stop them from acting on the intense attraction between them when they are teenagers. It’s perfect for Blue and too much for Kasper. Twenty years later, Blue is a divorced mother running a tourist attraction out of her family home. She doesn’t have the time for grow-up and sexy-as-hell Kasper. Kasper still feels the intense attraction for Blue and isn’t going to walk away again. The novella is quick, but feels like a fully developed story. Blue and Kasper have intense chemistry as young adults and in their forties. I really enjoyed the way the author starts in the present, takes a little trip to the past and what happened between Blue and Kasper, and then returns to the present to finish out the story. It was the perfect way to tell their story.
