Review and Giveaway: SAVOR THE DANGER by Lori Foster

100839642From the back of the book:

THE ONE WOMAN HE COULDN’T HAVE WAS THE ONLY WOMAN HE DESIRED…

She may be aloof, and more pretty than gorgeous, but Alani Rivers is the kind of woman a hot-blooded mercenary can’t forget, no matter how hard he tries. So when Jackson Savor wakes up next to the naked, sleeping beauty – with no memory of what happened – he knows he’s been drugged…even if Alani doesn’t.

After she was kidnapped. Alani vowed never to trust another man again. Still, something about this strong, sexy hero with the tender touch makes her want to believe him. As Jackson hunts down a mysterious intruder, he swears he’ll move heaven and earth to keep Alani safe. But what really happened that night? And will the truth bring them closer than they ever thought possible – or put Alani squarely in harm’s way again?

SAVOR THE DANGER, the third book in the Men Who Walk the Edge series, is an fun and fast ride. I enjoyed the romance between Alani and Jackson. I loved the way Jackson woke up in the beginning not knowing what had happened between him and Alani. She held the power as she told him all of the things they had done together. Other than that once instance though, I felt that Alani didn’t have much of a backbone. There were a couple of instances where I thought she was going to stand her ground, but she always backed down and did what Jackson, Dare, or Trace wanted her to do. I also didn’t care for the fact that we didn’t know who the big bad was until the very end. I wish that we would have known who they were up against like we did in TRACE OF FEVER. Jackson was fantastic. His laid back behavior was so different from Trace and Dare. I enjoyed how each man was unique and how they were alike. His relationship with Arizona was an interesting insight into who Jackson really was. I liked that we got to see all of his sides. The addition of Arizona and Spencer was great. I can’t wait for their story. Even though I didn’t care for a couple of things, I did thoroughly enjoy this book and can’t wait for more.

Review and E-book Giveaway: YOURS TO KEEP by Shannon Stacey

111936196From NetGalley:

Sean Kowalski no sooner leaves the army than he’s recruited by Emma Shaw to be her fake fiancé. Emma needs to produce a husband-to-be for her grandmother’s upcoming visit, and, though Sean doesn’t like the deception, he could use the landscaping job Emma’s offering while he decides what to do with his civilian life. And, despite his attraction to Emma, there’s no chance he’ll fall for a woman with deep roots in a town he’s not planning to call home.

Emma’s not interested in a real relationship either; not with a man whose idea of home is wherever he drops his duffel bag. No matter how amazing his “pretend” kisses are…

I can’t tell you how much I loved this book. I have been a fan of the whole series, but this one is my favorite. The premise is silly (a woman proposing that a man she’s never met be her fake fiance), but handled in a way that makes it feel realistic. Sean is such a great character. He is honorable, sexy, and a family man. I loved how he didn’t think he was ready to settle down, when it was completely in his DNA to do so. Emma was a little harder to like at first. She was a control freak and I worried that I wouldn’t be able to like her, but I did. She is different from Sean, but still holds the same ideals. The underlying thing between the two of them is that they would do anything for those they love…even if they are pretending. Their romance moves at a realistic pace and I could feel the emotion of their love story.

What makes this book so great for me is the writing. I love the interactions between the Kowalski’s. The dialogue is fantastic and I was laughing out loud in several places.  I also really loved the secondary love story featuring Emma’s grandma, Cat. There wasn’t anything about this book that I didn’t love.

Review and Giveaway: LOVE DRUNK COWBOY by Carolyn Brown

111221562From the back of the book:

She’s a self-made city girl…

High-powered career woman Austin Lanier suddenly finds herself saddles with an inherited watermelon farm deep in the countryside. She’s determined to sell the farm, until drop-dead sexy neighbor cowboy Rye O’Donnell shows up…

He’s as intoxicating as can be…

Rancher Rye O’Donnell thinks he’s going to get a good deal on his dream property – until he meets the fiery new owner. Rye is knocked sideways when he realizes that not only is Granny Lanier’s city-slicker granddaughter a savvy businesswoman, she’s also sexy as hell…

Suddenly Rye is a whole lot less interested in real estate and a whole lot more focused on getting Austin to set aside her stiletto heels…

I really enjoyed this book. I especially loved how Rye fell for Austin almost instantly. It was funny to read this inner thoughts. The chemistry between Rye and Austin is off the wall – these two practically burn the page. Another part of the book I liked was Austin’s struggle between city-girl and watermelon farmer. I felt that her struggle was written pretty realistically and I was happy that she didn’t make a rash decision, but really let both lives have a fair chance. Of course, with a hot cowboy like Rye waiting for her as a watermelon farmer it wouldn’t have been a really hard choice. My only complaint, and it is a silly one, was that sometimes I had trouble remembering just by their names with one was the girl and which one the boy. Austin and Rye are both masculine names in my head and it took some getting used to. (This complaint has no bearing on if the book was good or not – it just bothered me!) There is a whole cast of funny characters that help keep the story interesting and fun.

Review: WICKEDLY CHARMING by Kristine Grayson

97954010From the back of the book:

He’s given up on happily-ever-after…

Cinderella’s Prince Charming is divorced and at a dead end. The new owner of a bookstore, Charming has given up on women, royalty, and anything that smacks of a future. That is, until he meets up with Mellie…

But she may be the key to happily-right-now…

Mellie is sick and tired of stepmothers being misunderstood. Vampires have redeemed their reputation, why shouldn’t stepmothers do the same? Then she runs into the handsomest, most charming man she’s ever met and discovers she’s going about her mission all wrong…

It’s only natural that sparks fly and magic ensues when these two fairy-tale refugees put their heads – and vulnerable hearts – together…

I thought that the premise of this book sounded cute, but it just didn’t work for me. I really couldn’t get past the fact that Cinderella and Prince Charming got a divorce. I know it’s silly, but I don’t want their happily ever after to not work! It bothered me so much that I couldn’t finish the book. What I read of WICKEDLY CHARMING was well written and clever. Just because it didn’t work for me doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work for someone else, so I’m giving away my copy. If you think this is a book that you would enjoy leave me a comment. I’ll pick a winner on Sunday. US addresses only, please!

Review and Giveaway – TRACE OF FEVER by Lori Foster

984260641From the back of the book:

CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE OF VENGEANCE AND DESIRE

Undercover mercenary Trace Rivers loves the adrenaline rush of a well-planned mission. First he’ll earn the trust of corrupt businessman Murray Coburn, then gather the proof he needs to shut down the man’s dirty smuggling operation. It’s a perfect scheme – until Coburn’s long-lost daughter saunters in with her own deadly plan for revenge.

With a smile like an angel and fire in her eyes, Priscilla Patterson isn’t who she seems to be. But neither is the gorgeous bodyguard who ignites all her senses. Joining forces to plot Coburn’s downfall, Priss and Trace must fight the undeniable heat between them. For one wrong move, one lingering embrace, will expose them to the wrath of a merciless opponent…

The second book in the “Edge of Honor” series is explosive, fast paced, and sexy. I loved Dare, from WHEN YOU DARE, and thought there was no way Trace could be better. I was WRONG! Trace is an amazing character. He cares so much about other people and does what he has to ensure their safety. From the first scene between him and Priss this is evident. He isn’t sure if she is good or bad, but he does what he needs to do to protect her. It is very sexy! Priss (the only thing I didn’t like about this book is her name – It drove me nuts for the entire book) is a fascinating character too. Her need for revenge drives her and she isn’t about to let Trace do anything for her. One of the things I like most about this book is that Trace is rescued by Priss at one point. She keeps a calm head and takes care of business! Usually the heroine is being saved by the hero and I loved the role reversal. (Trace rescues her at one point too) TRACE OF FEVER moves at such a quick pace and there isn’t a dull moment. I can’t wait to read SAVOR THE DANGER featuring Jackson. He is still a mystery even after his appearance in this story.

Blog Tour and Giveaway – THE GUARDIAN by Margaret Mallory

98569778From the back of the book:

Four fearless warriors return to the Highlands to claim their lands and legacies. But all their trials on the battlefield can’t prepare them for their greatest challenge yet: winning the hearts of four willful Scottish beauties.

PASSION IGNITED

After years of fighting abroad, Ian MacDonald comes home to find his clan in peril. To save his kin, he must right the wrongs from his past…and claim the bride he’s long resisted.

As a young lass, Sileas depended on Ian to play her knight in shining armor. but when he rescue attempt compromised her virtue, Ian was forced to marry against his wishes. Five years later, Sileas has grown from an awkward girl into an independent beauty who knows she deserves better than the reluctant husband who preferred war to his wife. Now this devilishly handsome Highlander is finally falling in love. He wants a second chance with Sileas – and he won’t take no for an answer.

Scottish romances are always hit or miss for me and THE GUARDIAN is a big hit! I loved this book so much. Ian is a hero to die for – he is strong, fights for his family and country, and does whats right (even if he is forced into it). Sileas is also fantastic. She changes so much in the five years that Ian is gone. From a thirteen year old girl afraid of being married off to her step-fathers disgusting son to a beautiful woman who is the heart of her reluctant husband’s family. I really loved the way this book was written. It flows perfectly and not a single word is out of place. The action is fast paced and the tension is high. The relationship between Ian and Sileas is perfection. Even though she has been in love with him her whole life, she doesn’t allow Ian back in her good graces quickly. She makes him prove that he really wants her for her and not just because she has changed in appearance. Ian really has to learn what he wants from Sileas and their marriage. Another thing that I loved about this book was the relationship between Ian and his three cousins (who will have their own books). They work as a team and will do anything for each other – even die. They have a very strong bond that gave an emotional edge to the story. I can’t wait to read more in this series.
