read-a-thon, Reading

I am only sort-of participating this time. I have a lot on my plate this weekend that I didn’t have planned when I signed up and my husband is working today when he was supposed to be off. I am down one kid for most of the day, but still have to entertain my two boys. I will be reading throughout the day and may post some small updates, but it won’t be hourly like I usually do.

FIRST UPDATE: I started at 8am and it is now 11:30. This will be my longest uninterrupted reading time for the day until the kids go to bed!  I have finished one book (LADY SOPHIE’S CHRISTMAS WISH) and started another (HEART OF THE DESERT). I have to take a break now to take the kids to the park and make a quick run to the store. Will post again later!!

SECOND (AND PROBABLY LAST) UPDATE: 10:30pm – Well, I said that I wouldn’t be updating much and I was right. I have read off and on throughout the day. I finished HEART OF THE DESERT by Carol Marinelli and UNTIL THERE WAS YOU by Kristin Higgins. I think finishing three books is respectable for a read-a-thon!

Every year, when I’m finished, I say that I need to schedule better for the next read-a-thon and this time is no different. My husband always seems to have to work on the read-a-thon weekends (his plan?) or we have a million kid activities. I could accomplish a lot if I was alone or he was home to help with the kiddos. Maybe next time, lol.

I did finish 3 books. I read SECRETS OF A PROPER COUNTESS, FRIENDS TO FOREVER, and FACE OF DANGER. All three were good.

Tomorrow I’m part of Roxanne St. Claire’s blog tour for the next two Guardian Angelinos books. I’ll be giving away three sets, and believe me, if you are a fan of romantic suspense you will want to win these books!

lg-new-readathonbutton-borderToday I’m participating in the 24-Hour Read-a-Thon. I never make it the whole 24 hours and I never start on time. So far, this year won’t be any different. I’m starting at 11am cst (after I get hubby and boy off to Cub Scout thing) and will probably have to take many breaks (6yo and 4yo are home with me). In the past read-a-thons I have done hourly updates and participated in the mini-challenges, but I’m not going to this year. I’m just going to read. I will update this post every couple of hours.

To anyone else whose also participating in the read-a-thon – HAPPY READING!!

UPDATE 12pm cst – I just sat down to start reading. I finished all of my Saturday stuff and I can read for the next two or three hours with only minor interruptions! I’m starting with SECRETS OF A PROPER COUNTESS by Lecia Cornwall. I’ll update again at 3pm cst.

UPDATE 4pm cst – I got so caught up in the book I was reading I forgot to update at 3 – oops! I finished SECRETS OF A PROPER COUNTESS. It was fantastic! I will post a review this week. Now I’m starting FRIENDS TO FOREVER by Nikki Logan. I will probably take  break around 5:30 to cook dinner and spend some time with the kiddos. I’ll update again at 7pm cst.

UPDATE 7pm cst – I finished FRIENDS TO FOREVER. I was expecting something completely different than what this book was. It was a deeply emotional story and fantastically written. Now I need something light and funny. The next book I’m going to pick up is YOU DROPPED A BLONDE ON ME by Dakota Cassidy. I’ll check back in at 10pm cst.

UPDATE 10pm cst – Well, in the last three hours I read 50 pages, lol. But I did bake mini-cupcakes w/my 4yo, play basketball w/the 8yo and 6yo, and watched Tangled w/all three kids. Now everyone is in bed and I can read without interruptions. (Except for the puppy, cat, and cupcakes that are calling my name). I couldn’t find my copy of YOU DROPPED A BLONDE ON ME. I’m reading FACE OF DANGER by Roxanne St. Claire instead. I needed to read it for a blog tour on Monday. I don’t know how late I’ll make it. My husband closes at his restaurant tonight, so I know I will be up until he gets home between 2 and 3 am. I will probably just check in one more time around the time that I crash!

readathonbutton1 I’ve made my book list, baked muffins for the family to eat for breakfast, and am ready to read!!

I’ll be reading the rest of my October review books and I hope to get to a few November ones too. This is my list of books I hope I can get to during the read-a-thon.

BACKSTAGE PASS – Olivia Cunning

EDGE OF SIGHT – Roxanne St. Clare

FOUR PLAY – Maya Banks and Shayla Black

Hour 1 – 9-10am – I started re-reading INDULGENCE IN DEATH last night, so I’m going to finish it before starting any of the books I planned to read today. I’m more than halfway through and since it is a re-read it shouldn’t take me long to finish it! Every read-a-thon starts with a small meme, so here are my answers:

Where are you reading from today? Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

3 facts about me … I have three kiddos, I’m working on my 5th novel (this will be the one I get published – I just know it), and I have a weakness for peanut butter m&ms.

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? 8

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)? My only goal is to not get distracted. With three kids it will be easier said than done. My husband is taking them outside for the morning so I’ll at least make it that long.

Hour 3 – 11am-12pm – I’m still reading INDULGENCE IN DEATH. The kids are just now going outside so I’ve had to do some Mom type stuff. It is my hope to read straight through the next three hours and then I’ll take a little break.

Hour 6 – 2pm-3pm – I’m not doing to great. I keep getting distracted by the kids and husband. We have a computer rule in our house that the kids are only allowed to be on the computers from 3pm-5pm. Today I’m letting them get on a little early so that I can have some quite time. They are very happy! Still reading INDULGENCE IN DEATH, but I’m on the last twenty pages so I will finish this hour for sure!

Hour 8 – 4pm-5pm – I finally finished INDULGENCE IN DEATH. I love ready the In Death books – it’s like visiting with old friends. I started and have read about half of SECOND CHANCES by Lauren Dane. So far I’m loving the book and can’t wait to keep reading. I’m going to take a break from 5pm-8pm and spend time with the family. We have a movie night on Saturday nights and tonight we are watching the first disk from the first season on Duck Tales, lol. I will probably not post again until 8pm!

Hour 12 – 8pm-9pm – Break over!! I know have two kids in bed, one playing games online, and the hubby is at work. This will be when my “real” reading time starts. I’m picking back up with SECOND CHANCES and hope to finish it in the next hour or so.

Hour 12 is time for the half-way meme:

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now? SECOND CHANCES by Lauren Dane
2. How many books have you read so far? Just 1
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Actually getting to read without being interrupted!
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? My whole day wasn’t free. Hubby was home until 2, but Saturday is family day so we had some activities that I didn’t want to miss.
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? I just dealt with it, lol. Multi-tasking is this mothers greatest talent.
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? Nothing really. I’m having pretty much the same experience I’ve had in previous read-a-thons.
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? Nope
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? I always say that I’m going to make the next read-a-thon a “me” weekend and get a hotel room or something. It will probably never happen though:)
9. Are you getting tired yet? Not yet – I’m a night owl.
Hour 14 – 10pm-11pm – Almost finished with SECOND CHANCES which is fantastic. Had to take a little break to watch a show with my 7year old, but now I’m back to reading full time! My goal is to make it to 1am or so.
Hour 16 – 12am-1am – I finished SECOND CHANCES and boy did that book make me cry! Such a great romance, but it is definitely an emotional roller coaster. I have started TWELVE NIGHTS OF CHRISTMAS by Sarah Morgan, but I’m not sure how far I will get. My eyes are starting to hurt and I might have to put the kindle down soon. This is the last time I will update tonight. In the morning I’ll do some sort of wrap-up at the end of this post!

readathonbuttonTomorrow I’ll be participating in the 24-hour Read-a-Thon. I’ll be posting a running commentary on what I’m reading and such. I probably will start around 9am (even though the read-a-thon starts at 7am – it’s Saturday and I don’t have to get kids ready for school so I’ll be sleeping in)!  Tonight I’ll put my books in order, bake some muffins for breakfast and get my coffee pot ready. Is anyone else participating??

lg-new-readathonbutton-borderI’m going to try and update hourly, so here we go:

HOUR 1 – 7:00am

I’m starting out easy this morning with a few of the Blazes that I haven’t caught up on yet. Only one kid is up so far and he is happily watching a movie. I’ll see how much reading I actually get done while hubby is at work and all three kids are home!

Hour 1 MeMe

Where are you reading from today? My home sweet home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

3 facts about me … I have three children, have a love/hate relationship with scary movies, and love chocolate

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? 9, but some are very short

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)? I really want to make it the whole 24 hours this time. This is my third read-a-thon and I haven’t made it the whole 24 yet. I also want to catch up on all of my review books!

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time? Take cat naps or breaks…and drink lots of coffee!!

I won’t be reading for the next two hours. It is lunch time at casa book girl. Kids need to eat and I promised we would make ghost cookies, so gonna take some time off from reading to play with the little ones. At 1pm, I’ll be back and reading children books with my super-reader 6yo. He’ll be blogging about the books we read for that hour!!

Hour 7 – 1pm

This hour (or at least part of it) I’m reading with the book boy, my 6yo. He has picked out two books and so have I. We are going to read them together (with him doing most of the reading) and then I’ll get back to my book!

I have about 150 pages left, so I think I can do it! I’m also enjoying the ghost cookies the kids and I made earlier…they are delicious!

Hour 9 – 3pm

books read (including children books) – 5

pages read – 452

Almost finished my second adult book….really hope to start something new this hour! I took a snack break with the kids and played Thomas the Train for a bit last hour. It’s nice that the kids make me take these little breaks so I don’t get sleepy and my eyes aren’t getting tired yet. Now, for more reading…

pages read – 526

loads of laundry – 6 (Including sheets/blankets from everyone’s beds.)
