DEADLY HEAT

This is the second book in the SSD series by Cynthia Eden. I really enjoyed DEADLY HEAT. The suspense is great and done in a way that keeps the reader interested. The plot is simple and there aren’t many twists and turns to take away from the story. Kenton Lake and Lora Spade are very complimentary characters. They are both tough and stubborn, but with a more sensitive side that they don’t show many people. This couple fits almost from the first page. I really enjoyed the way their relationship developed amid all of the chaos caused by the series arsonist. The book is perfect for any fan of romantic suspense where the romance plays a very large part of the story.

EDGE OF SIGHT is a perfect romantic suspense. From the first pages I was hooked and literally couldn’t put the book down. I stayed up past 3am just to finish the book! Sam and Zach are fantastic characters. Zach is a veteran who was injured and is still coming to terms with what has happened to him. He is simply amazing. Even though he doesn’t want to help Sam, because he still has feelings for her, he does what he must to keep her save. He is very alpha, but he still lets Sam have her opinions and lets her do things the way she wants to sometimes. Sam is feisty. Due to something that happened in her past, she has trouble trusting her gut. I loved how  Zach helps her grow and learn to trust herself again. In return Sam helps Zach regain something that he lost when he was injured. These two had quite a history and it wasn’t all good. I am a sucker for the rekindled romance plot and loved the way Sam and Zach find each other again. EDGE OF SIGHT is full of suspense and action. There were several scenes where my heart was pounding and I was holding my breath.

One of the things that makes EDGE OF SIGHT so great is the family aspect. I loved all of the Rossi’s, especially Nino. I can’t wait to read more books in the Guardian Angelinos series.

I’ve read Ms. Force’s previous romance novels and loved them, so I was very excited to get an advance copy of FATAL AFFAIR. I was immediately captivated by the story. I read the entire book in one sitting. (My back was killing me when I was done!) This is a romantic suspense and from the very outset I was trying to figure out who the murderer was – I didn’t figure it out until maybe a page or two before the reveal. To me this is the mark of a fantastic suspense novel. I hate when I know who the bad guy is early in the book. The relationship that develops between Sam and Nick is fantastic. It happens very quickly, but didn’t feel out of place. The two have a shared history which made it believable for them to fall in love at the pace they did. This book was on the long side (411 pages on my computer), but didn’t feel long at all when I was reading. FATAL AFFAIR is a very fast paced, action packed book that left me wanting more. There is one secondary character (Sam’s partner) that I hope gets his own book. I can’t wait to read more by this author!!

This book is more of a romantic suspense than a straight romance. The crime story that Libby is trying to solve is just as important as the romance. Luke is a dream guy. He is kind to everyone in town and takes care of aging parents. Libby tries to resist him, but doesn’t do a very good job at all. There are some comedic moments along with the suspense. The book has a colorful cast of characters – like any small town. I really liked the romance that blossomed between Libby and Luke.

Here’s what I didn’t like about the book. The “mystery” is easily solvable. I could tell who the bad guy was almost from the beginning. A lot of what happened felt like it was just put in to keep the crime a part of the story, but didn’t do much to move the plot along. There are a lot of red herrings – to the point that I found a few absurd.
