From the back of the book:
Phillippa Benning is the unrivaled beauty of the Season - and she likes it that way. But when another lady challenges her for the attention of the most eligible marquis in London, Phillippa throws caution to the wind and entices him to a secret rendezvous, only to stumble on something far more dangerous: the Blue Raven, England’s most famous spy, lurking at the site of her would-be tryst.
The Blue Raven has uncovered an enemy plot directed at upcoming Society functions, but without title or invitation, he’s unable to discreetly infiltrate the upper echelons of London’s society. Phillippa makes a clever offer: in exchange for entree among the Ton, he agrees to have his true identity revealed at the Benning Ball - guaranteeing her name will be on the lips of the elite for Seasons to come.
As the danger draws closer, the mysterious spy gives chase - and he and Phillippa give in to mutual desire. But when the game turns deadly and betrayal lurks around the corner, Phillippa must decide once and for all - is it the myth that captured her heart or the man?
I really enjoyed this book as a whole, but wasn’t too fond of the main character Phillippa. She came across spoilt and snobby. It fit within the story and the character did grow and change, but I was already not liking her and it was too late to change my mind. I felt that Mr. Worth was a great character. He was sympathetic and easy to root for. The writing and the dialog are fun, there were several times when I was laughing out loud. This book wouldn’t gain a spot on my keeper shelf, but I will read more by the author.

ONE DETERMINED LADY…Tough-minded Jessica Trent’s sole intention is to free her nitwit brother from the destructive influence of Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain. She never expects to desire the arrogant, amoral cad. And when Dain’s reciprocal passion places them in a scandalously compromising and public position, Jessica is left with no choice but to seek satisfaction…
MEETS THE LORD OF SCOUNDRELS…Damn the minx for tempting him, kissing him…and then forcing him to salvage her reputation! Lord Dain can’t wait to put the infuriating bluestocking in her place - preferably in some amorous position. And if it means marriage, so be it! But Sebastian is less than certain he can continue to remain aloof and steel his heart to the sensuous, headstrong lady’s considerable charms.
I read this book because of a post on Book Binge and am I so happy that I decided to read the book. I loved it. Dain is the ultimate “bad boy” who is changed by love and Jessica is unlike many historical heroines. She is feisty and beautiful, and isn’t going to let the conceited Lord Dain win in any game they play. My favorite scene is when she shoots him. Yes, that’s right she actually shoots him. I will definitely be reading more by Loretta Chase in the future!!

From the back of the book:
Desperate to escape a loveless marriage and society’s constraints, pampered heiress Sophia Hathaway jilts her groom, packs up her paints and sketchbook, and assumes a new identity, posing as a governess to secure passage on the Aphrodite. She wants a life of her own: unsheltered, unconventional, uninhibited. But it’s one thing to sketch her most wanton fantasies, and quite another to face the dangerously handsome libertine who would steal both her virtue and her gold
To any well-bred lady, Benedict “Gray” Grayson is trouble in snug-fitting boots. A Conscienceless scoundrel who sails the seas for pleasure and profit. Gray lives for conquest - until brave sharks, fire, storm, and sea just to keep her at his side. She’s beautiful, refined, and ripe for seduction. Could this counterfeit governess be a rogue’s redemption? Or will the runaway heiress’s secrets destroy their only chance at love?
I loved this book as much as I did Goddess of the Hunt. Sophie was one of my favorite characters from the first book and I loved her more in this book. She is a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t going to let anyone else tell her what she should do or who she should marry. Gray is trying to do what’s right for his family and in his mind that means being respectable. Together they are quite a couple. Gray tries to resist the tempting Sophie, but doesn’t do a very good job. I love that the whole book (at least most) takes board upon a ship. There was a much different dynamic to Surrender of a Siren than the typical romance. Without the lords and ballrooms it was a very different kind of book. I can’t wait to read A Lady of Persuasion. I *need* to know what happened to Toby after Sophia left him practically at the alter.

The Legend Hunters…
The Men of Solomon’s meet in secret, their very existence only a rumor among the best of Victorian society. They are treasure hunters, men of wealth and title, seekers of myths and legends. And no legend is as alluring as the tale of Pandora’s Box…
Seduce Me
Fielding Grey is a treasure seeker with a taste for danger and experienced women. His latest mission: wrest Pandora’s fabled box from a notorious criminal mastermind. Not in the job description: save an innocent damsel in distress.
A bookish miss, Esme Worthington has favored dusty tomes over society balls, and thrilling tales over flirtations. But when two scoundrels break into her home, she is thrust into a real-life adventure. Pursued and suddenly possessing the forbidden bos, Esme can’t resist peeking inside. Under the spell of Pandora’s seductive curse, she’s soon offering herself to Fielding - body and soul. With her reluctant rescuer determined to resist her charms, can the two outwit an enemy who will stop at nothing to seize their precious prize?
I LOVED THIS BOOK! There is just the right amount of adventure and romance, neither one overshadows the other. From the beginning I was rooting for Esme and Fielding. They seemed to complete each other in ways that they both needed. The Pandora’s box part of the story was very interesting. I liked all of the legends surrounding the box and how each one was different, but held the same thread. That a woman, with great beauty, was punished by the gods. I finished the book about an hour ago and am still thinking about the last three lines. I won’t post them since they could be considered spoilerish, but they made my heart melt. I want more. I want Max, the Marquis that helps Esme and Fielding, to have his own story. As well as Nick, another member of Solomon’s. My only complaint is that we didn’t get the end of Esme’s aunt Thea’s story. I wanted to know what happened to her.

Rumors and Gossip…
The lifeblood of London
When Olivia Bevelstoke is told that her new neighbor may have killed his fiancee, she doesn’t believe it for a second, but, still, how can she help spying on him, just to be sure? So she stakes out a spot near her bedroom window, cleverly concealed by curtains, watches, and waits…and discovers a most intriguing man, who is definitely up to something.
Sir Harry Valentine works for the boring branch of the War Office, translating documents vital to national security. He’s not a spy, but he’s had all the training, and when a gorgeous blonde begins to watch him from her window, he is instantly suspicious. But just when he decides that she’s nothing more than an annoyingly nosy debutante, he discovers that she might be engaged to a foreign prince, who might be plotting against England. And when Harry is roped into spying on Olivia, he discovers that he might be falling for her himself…
This book rocks. I have been on an historical kick lately and Julia Quinn is one of my favorite historical authors. WHAT HAPPENS IN LONDON is a very fun book. Olivia and Harry are great characters. I love the scenes that take place at the windows, especially the last one. The couple has incredible chemistry and fit each other perfectly. Ms. Quinn writes fantastic dialogue and the way she describes the scenes paints a vivid picture in my head. I loved this book and can’t wait to read Harry’s cousins story next year!

Then Comes Seduction
In a night of drunken revelry, Jasper Finley, Baron Montford, gambles his reputation as London’s most notorious lover on one woman. His challenge? To seduce the exquisite, virtuous Katherine Huxtable within a fortnight. But when his best-laid plans to awry, Jasper devises a wager of his own. For Katherine, already wildly attracted to him, Jasper’s offer is irresistible: to make London’s most dangerous rake fall in love with her. Then Jasper suddenly ups the ante. Katherine knows she should refuse. But with scandal brewing and her reputation in jeopardy, she reluctantly agrees to become his wife. Now, as passion ignites, the seduction really begins. And this time the prize is nothing less than both their hearts….
This is the second book in the Huxtable series by Mary Balogh. I enjoyed this book even more than book 1, which I liked a lot. Katherine is a great character. Known as a beauty, she is determined to fall in love and only marry once she has found her true love. Jasper, Baron Montford, is a cynic who doesn’t believe in love only lust. These two are very different, but are a perfect couple. Katherine helps Jasper learn about love. I really enjoy the way Ms. Balogh writes dialogue between her characters. I can hear the conversation in my head. I also liked how things didn’t happen quickly for the characters. There was time between when the infamous wager is made and when the couple finds their happy ending!

She spied him in the shadows…
And in an instant, Thalia Langley knew the man before her was no saint. He might claim to be the Duke of Hollindrake’s unassuming country cousin, but no man that handsome, that arresting, could be anything but…well, he simply must be an unrepentant rogue. His cat-like grace and power leave Tally shivering in her slippers at the notion of all the wicked, forbidden things he might be capable of doing…to her.
Indeed, Lord Larken is no bumbling vicar, but a master spy there in his majesty’s service to find - and murder - a notorious pirate freed in a daring prison escape. Devoted to the Crown, Larken’s not about to let an interfering (and not entirely innocent) Mayfair miss disrupt his ruthless plans. Yet how can he be anything but tempted by this lady in a little black gown… a dress tantalizing enough to lead even Larken astray.
Confessions of A Little Black Gown is part of a series that started with Love Letters from a Duke, but is completely a stand-alone. I didn’t read the first book, so didn’t have a real feel for the characters before starting, but it didn’t bother me. Although I am curious that if I read the first book what my opinion of Thalia’s sister would be - I didn’t care for her in this book at all. The story moves quickly and immediately pulls the reader in. I loved how Larken was trying to act a certain way, but couldn’t with Thalia. The instant attraction between them set just the right tone for the love story that develops.
I didn’t enjoy the way everyone was ordered around by Thalia’s sister or the way the conflict of the story played out. It was drawn out for 3/4 of the book and then in the last 1/4 was rushed.
The next book in the series is, Memoirs of a Scandalous Red Dress. I tried to read it, but couldn’t get into the book. It takes place 27 years later than Confessions of a Little Black Gown and it just didn’t draw me in.

Resistance is Futile
Lady Olivia Fairchild has always lived a life of luxury and ease, but she longs for the kind of intrigue that can’t be found on a ballroom dance floor. Then Olivia learns she’s been accepted as the first female student in England’s prestigious spy school. But spy-training is far more grueling than Olivia ever imagined - and her dashing spymaster seems bent on banishing her from the school in record time…
When Every Look Brings Them Closer…
Sebastian Brooks believes women have no place within the dangerous world of espionage 0 and he’s determined to oust Olivia by whatever means necessary. But even as Sebastian mercilessly taunts her, he finds the sight of Olivia’s shapely body gallivanting on horseback is driving him wild. Olivia, too, can feel her longing for Sebastian heating up. Surrendering to her desire could be the most reckless move of her life - but resisting it may be impossible….
I loved this book. It’s not your typical historical, there aren’t many balls, visits to the dressmaker, or afternoon teas. Instead, the reader is treated to a look at an unconventional woman trying to do something more with her life. The writing flows fast and I couldn’t put it down. I was pleased with where the story began, there wasn’t a lot of back story and info dumping. The reader was just thrust right in and it didn’t feel like anything was missing. I can’t wait to read more adventures by Pearl Wolf.

From the back of the book:
When the rakish fifth Duke of Blakewell’s unexpected and shockingly lovely new ward arrives, she claims to carry a curse that has brought each of her previous guardians to an untimely end. As she tries to persuade him to release her to manage her own fortune, and he tries to find her a suitable husband, they become scandalously entangled. When several potentially deadly accidents befall the Duke, Henrietta is the only one who can help him…
This was a great beginning to a new series about three cousins and their grandmother. The grandmother has passed away, but through her letters we learn a lot about how the cousins act. The writing in this book flows really well and the plot is very simple - no twists and turns. I liked that the “hero” of the book didn’t start out as an ass as so many of the historical romance heroes do. Henrietta was an interesting character that was naively wise. She knew a lot about life, from living with so many guardians, but was very naive about men and life in London. I can’ t wait to read the other books in this trilogy.
the book girl rates this book a 5/5 - it is definitely staying on my keeper shelf!
